Look on page 2
it has already been done

muffinmonster · 26/03/2011 20:33

He is being v unreasonable. I can tell you for a certainty that middle age doesn't begin until you're over 50, and even then it depends on the person. Grin

MerylStrop · 26/03/2011 20:33

I think middle age is less about how old you are and more about beige slacks

pixiestix · 26/03/2011 20:34

Um, well the longest lived person in my family was 76, so 35 is pretty middle aged by our standards. Sorry!
How long are you planning to live if you feel that you aren't nearly middle aged? Grin

cath476 · 26/03/2011 21:14

nooooooo pixiestix - it can't be true - I'm only just out of my teens!!! Antway, I wouldn't be seen dead in beige slacks so I can't be middle-aged!

Am going to live till 192, so by that reckoning have ages yet to be middle aged! Me, in denial? No, no, no:o

cath476 · 26/03/2011 21:17

How bizarre - I hadn't even seen the other thread - dh was watching Ant and Dec and said " look at those two - they're middle aged now" at which point I said that I was the same age as them, hence the thread. I'll slope off to the other one to find out the general concensus. Blush

middle age in my head is 35-50

What are the other age band definitions

Rhian82 · 26/03/2011 21:26

Have to say, I do tend to think of it as when you're halfway through your life, so it's about right.

midnightservant · 26/03/2011 21:38

BabyDubs am I old then at 58? Perhaps upper middle-aged?

spiderslegs · 26/03/2011 21:41

I am a youthful 37

You are middle aged

She is an old bag

BabyDubsEverywhere · 26/03/2011 23:25

Midnight, this is why I asked what other headed age bands we recognise,

We have loads for kids,

0-3 months - Newborn,
upto 12 months - Baby,
12-24 months - Toddler,

and on and on, then we seem to stop.

58....i would say that is approaching old age, to me that starts..hmm, 65 i think, Its all objective though, just top of head first thought...

70 plus terrifies me tbh, I havent experienced anyone above that age living a live THEY feel is worth living :(

midnightservant · 26/03/2011 23:35

Good grief BabyDubs have you not? Father is 91 and mother is 81 and they both enjoy life.

I don't feel I am approaching 65 - to say that is a bit like saying 23 is approaching 30 isn't it?

Although I am approaching 60, I'll grant you that :)

I knew a lady who sadly passed away last year at the grand old age of 101! I first met her when she was 86 and a very active member of our local theatre. She used to provide the buffet for the "old people's" performance once a month (most were probably 15 years younger than her!) She also catered for party bookings and oversaw the refreshment sales. She was very active on a number of committees as well as having a large loving family. She drove a car until she was well into her 90's when she gave up her licence but still used to take a taxi everywhere to fulfill her various commitments. She was an inspiration and, believe me, she definitely felt she had a life worth living.

Cath, that's lovely. My mother was doing Meals on Wheels/Red Cross brunch clubs 'for the old people' till she was about 78 (and many of those 'old people' were younger than her) - I thought that was pretty good, but your friend takes the biscuit.

I also have a friend of 82 who still spends hours every week digging his allotment. His 84-year-old brother can still drink us under the table still enjoys the good life too.

BabyDubs, the point about 'middle' or 'old' age is that it's always going to start at about 20 years older than our current age.

Though, speaking as one whose next birthday will be 51 Hmm, 33 seems pretty damn young to me.

Midnight, congratulations on those genes. Have fun!

Giselle99 · 27/03/2011 00:06

Middle aged to me is 45-59. Not based on anything scientific though!

Georgelassosthemoon · 27/03/2011 00:10

I am middle aged and proud of it. Youth isn't all it's cracked up to be. Wish I'd had the confidence then I have now - or the confidence I have now
to pretend I have confidence.

I'm 32 and still feel like an 18 year old inside
