to just not get Claudia Winkleman

She keeps popping up (this time on Comic Relief) and every time I wonder why. She's just not very good and doesn't seem to bring anything particular to whatever she's presenting on either radio or TV.

I appreciate that having a high-profile mum might have got her a break in the business and good luck to her, but what's the enduring appeal?

Maybe I'm just being a bit thick, but if you genuinely like her, please would you take a few moments to explain why Confused.

Who is her mum?

ThierryHenryismyBoyfriend · 18/03/2011 19:44

YANBU, she's terrible!

Zippylovesgeorge · 18/03/2011 19:44

Can't stand her - didn't realise until recently who her Mum was. Always wondered why she'd got into tv when there is no obviously hint of talent about her.

MrsOtter · 18/03/2011 19:44

I wish we could like thread titles on MN, like you can with status updates because I would like yours funtimes.

I too just don't get her, or understand what she brings

berri · 18/03/2011 19:45

Who's her mum?

Ismene · 18/03/2011 19:45

Who is her mum?

Why does she have such a crap fringe?

SugarSkyHigh · 18/03/2011 19:45

her mum is Sue Pollard and yes I hate Claudia too!!!! uggghhhh! almost as bad as Lauren fuckin Laverne Angry

ThierryHenryismyBoyfriend · 18/03/2011 19:46

No it's Eve Pollard!

diabolo · 18/03/2011 19:46

I've never liked her.

She said once (in the Times I think) that she deliberately made her kids go a school in London, where they had to walk through a really tough Estate to get there and back again. They'd been harrassed / mugged loads of times but she thought it was good for them and she didn't want anyone to think she would use her money to buy anything better for her kids Confused

Trying too hard I think.

TaudrieTattoo · 18/03/2011 19:46

Sue Pollard??

Grin

Do you mean Eve?

diabolo · 18/03/2011 19:46

Her mum is Eve Pollard, not Sue Pollard.

Zippylovesgeorge · 18/03/2011 19:47

Her Mum is EVE Pollard - Sue Pollard was Peggy in HiDeHi Wink

orienteerer · 18/03/2011 19:47

Just posted about her fringe hereGrin.

TaudrieTattoo · 18/03/2011 19:48

I also read a column about how her son got measles and was really ill after she refused to let him have the MMR.

She was really hard on herself. Made me warm to her.

But she needs a different lipstick. She looks anaemic.

Ciske · 18/03/2011 19:48

I like her, I just wish she would cut the fringe. I feel like walking to the TV with a pair of scissors and sort it out myself.

IslandMooCow · 18/03/2011 19:49

Wasn't that keen, but think she's great on Film 2011 so I'm a convert! :)

funtimewincies · 18/03/2011 19:49

Just to clarify this is her mum.

I'm sure she's lovely and I certainly don't hate her, but I just don't understand why she's such a favourite of the schedulers.

People are slagging off my favourite ladies all over the place this evening. Claudia Winkleman is great (as is Lauren Laverne, see other thread). I only watch Strictly Come Dancing so that I can watch Claudia on It Takes Two .

CocoKev · 18/03/2011 19:50

I do like her- although it took me a few weeks on Film 2011 to get over that fringe (and even now I can't see her without wondering how she can stand it hanging in her eyes). I think her enthusiasm and distinctive style make her pretty watchable. And I much prefer her to Jonathan Ross's almost unbearable smugness.

I can see why others don't like her though- perhaps she's a bit of an acquired taste?

SugarSkyHigh · 18/03/2011 19:50

Sue, Eve, Eve, Sue, they're all the same to me! Grin Wine

mnistooaddictive · 18/03/2011 19:52

I think she is fab. She is very funny.

TaudrieTattoo · 18/03/2011 19:52

If that was to me, yes, certain. She wrote it in a newspaper column when her son was about 2. She said she had been "an arse", because she had been so precious about making sure he had wooden toys and organic food, etc, but hadn't protected him. It was a very honest column actually.
