ATM his hair is past his shoulders, he doesn't want it cut nor do I but at the very least it needs a trim.

WIBU to take him to an uptown expensive hairdressers?

I know this may be hard but if possible can you not give daddy the honour of taking him for his first haircut. My husband was like a dog with two tails the days he took his lads to get their first big boy cuts. Also if you make it a family tradition for the lads to go with the men to the barbers it can be a bonding experience for them.
