Poppy burner

GORGEOUSX · 08/03/2011 13:28

In thinking that the man, who happens to be Muslim, got off with a ludicrous judgement for burning poppies?

I say he happens to be Muslim, because Baroness Warsi thinks Muslims get a bad press.

So this man, who happens to be a muslim, got off with a £50 fine and then went on the BBC news to have a jolly good laugh about it.

When the American reverend wanted to come to the UK to talk about burning Korans, he was, quite rightly IMO banned from entering the country; yet this man who deliberately caused many many British people a great deal of upset and offense, by his disgusting behaviour, and total disregard for people in this country, is not even in prison.Shock

hypocrisy*

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/03/2011 17:44

I agree with LDNmummy I think he was trying to make a quasi-political point. He did so in a crude and offensive way which caused distress to ordinary people rather than finding a way to engage in a debate over the morals of our position in Iraq and Afghanistan with the politicians who have sent our troops there. I do not agree with what he did but I am another one struggling with the free speech point.

fifi25 as I pointed out above the student who weed on the poppies was charged with getting his genitalia out in public which is a different offence.

fifi25 · 08/03/2011 17:50

I am all for freedom speech providing everyone is able to have it including the British.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/03/2011 18:05

fifi25 Choudhury is British

Rhinestone · 08/03/2011 18:09

I doubt Choudhury would self-identify as British.

So let's not do it for him.

furryfury · 08/03/2011 18:10

The man is an absolute wanker. What's wonderful about the country that we live in is that he has every right to be a wanker, and I have every right to call him one. Freedom of speech is precious, personally I think having to listen to/see the odd uneducated, inarticulate dickhead saying/doing something moronic is a small price to pay. And lets not forget, this freedom is what the fallen that those poppies commemorate were fighting for.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/03/2011 18:11

All the press reports I have seen describe him as a British Citizen - its a matter of fact. Otherwise what do you mean by British?

sowhatis · 08/03/2011 18:14

i think it was sick, and i would love to see what the punishment would be for burning a symbol of so much pride for another country/race. i think he got off v lightly because of his religion - and that is pathetic and a disgrace imho. i would have liked to have seen him get more and possibly a short prison sentence for such disrespect for the men and women who serve to protect the country we, and he, lives in.

Rhinestone · 08/03/2011 18:17

He said on the radio this morning that he wants to move to Afghanistan or Iraq. He may officially be British but I doubt he would self-identify as British, i.e. if he was asked "Do you feel British?" then I doubt he would say, "Oh yes, I feel British to my very core. I love Britain and the British way of life and our history and heritage."

ilovesprouts · 08/03/2011 18:17

should of been 5.000 its an insult Angry

BulletWithAName · 08/03/2011 18:28

He said on the radio this morning that he wants to move to Afghanistan or Iraq

Ha! I'm sure he really, really means that Hmm

sowhatis · 08/03/2011 18:34

lets hope he does, scum.

fifi25 · 08/03/2011 18:48

sorry chaz - White British, i should have made myself clearer

LDNmummy · 08/03/2011 18:57

I'm white and British but not from this country, Britain is my adopted home. fifi25 I find something kinda funny about your statement, cannot put my finger on it and don't want to single out but Confused

alemci · 08/03/2011 19:06

I wonder how he will get on in afghanistan or Iraq with his freedom of speech argument and doubt if he will get any benefits there either. Will they provide him with some tax credits and a nice council house

JohannaM · 08/03/2011 19:11

Perhaps the real issue here is the hypocrisy of the British government and some of the public. It's easy to stand looking po-faced and get dewy eyed as union flag covered coffins drive by, but actually providing and paying for treatment for those of "our heroes" who aren't dead but are disabled and traumatised, - well that's different! That costs a lot of money!

Bodies don't cost the state anything and armed forces widows usually get a pittance of a pension. However, wounded men, many of whom will need long term medical and social care, are another matter. Far easier (and much cheaper) to drape yourself in the flag and get emotional. Hmm

GORGEOUSX · 08/03/2011 19:19

Johanna I'm not quite sure what that's got to do with the arsehole who takes the piss out of us all, by living in this country, living off us, yet wishing our soldiers dead and burning poppys during the 2-minute silence. Confused

RunAwayWife · 08/03/2011 19:21

If some idiot went out burning the quran there would be uproar, this idiot went out burning poppies and got a slap on the wrist.

I don't care what pretend deity he is doing it in the name of, £50 fine is a joke, the irony of it all is he is too stupid to work out that if it were not for the people who gave their lives in world war one and world war two he would not be allowed to live here, express free speech or protest.

Man is an idiot.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 08/03/2011 19:25

Oh my god, when I heard it on the news this morning, I thought the news reader said "puppies" and was incredibly weirded out when people only seemed to be mildly offended!

FellatioNelson · 08/03/2011 20:07

Er, yes, quite JM! Thought the same myself! A valid point on new thread maybe, but feck all to do with this one.

FellatioNelson · 08/03/2011 20:08

Oh we burn puppies once a year every year 'round these parts. Tis tradition. Wink

GORGEOUSX · 08/03/2011 20:12

LOL!

bettybosseye · 08/03/2011 20:35

This guy sounds like a true moron who doesn't deserve the oxygen of publicity. He should have been allowed to have his pathetic little protest because that's what living in a free country is all about.
I do agree however that the same opportunity to exersise our freedom wouldn't be so readily offered to anyone burning the koran.
We live in a society paralysed by the fear of offending people.
