I saw this link when following a "biggest baby" link.

I am absolutely horrified.

Try and watch the short clip at the bottom.

Great minds think alike! Was thinking about starting thread after stumbling across this image...shocking!
Parents say he's been smoking 40 a day...I mean, who on earth would allow their 2 yr old to try a fag?!
I'm totally respecting of other cultures but this is just wrong, and child abuse!

LadyOfTheManor · 04/03/2011 09:16

According to the clip he's been taken into care. My son is 1 and I can't imagine him "starting to smoke" in 6 months time! I didn't believe it until I saw the clip, I am horrified.

holy crap Shock

Its desperately sad but not uncommon. There was more to it iirc than the parents just doing it for a laugh. I think the father gave him a drag when he was ill or something, and it went from there.

What got me about it when the story originally broke (was about a year ago I think) was that the parents only wanted him to quit because it was costing them too much. They genuinely didnt see the health issues involved but then why would they if they hadnt been told about them. I got the impression that smoking wasnt considered a problem for them as such, and the father seemed bemused by the attention.

LadyOfTheManor · 04/03/2011 09:35

Yes I noticed some of the adults in the background thinking it was rather funny.

thing is, tobacco companies are targeting countries like this. Their market is shrinking in the western world so they have to find new markets (victims). Remember reading about how the tobacco companies were doing marketing stratagies in Africa like holding sporting events and giving out free cigarettes to the public - including children. Similar in China where smoking was traditionally something men did - now they are marketing it women and the younger population. creating new markets.

It's so sad. His age! I know some kiddies smoke at like, 9 or whatever and that's shocking, but 18 months! Shock

It sickened me how natural it was to him.
