to lie to DP?

Dp's birthday is on Sunday. I work shifts and am rota'd to work this weekend.

I have booked the weekend as holiday.
I have arranged for a good friend of ours to make a specific cake (she does this for a living, I am paying)
Same friend and her DH are very close friends of DPs but live a long way from us. I have arranged to meet them for lunch tomorrow at a restaurant near them, which is themed to DPs and our interest.
We will then spend the rest of the day together, we'll work out what we're doing when we get that far.
I have booked a nice hotel for the night, b&b.
I have arranged with his sister to go and see them on Sunday, the actual birthday.

I feel really really bad and guilty about lying to him, even though I only have ten hours to go - I'm planning to set my alarm for my normal time, then tell him I cba to go to work and watch his reaction [devil]

AIBU??

No yanbu what a lovely idea and when you finally get round to telling him he wont even think about the fact you have had to lie to him :) enjoy :)

YANBU! I'm so Envy. Have fun!

purplepidjin · 04/02/2011 20:13

Thank you!! I just have to get through this last couple of hours, then I'll be asleep and it'll be easy Grin

Have a large glass of Wine, it will help you sleep!

Will you tell him in the morning?

magna · 04/02/2011 20:22

purple that is lovely. Just stay on MN until bed and you will last.

Have a couple of Wine not too many or you may spill the beans Grin

purplepidjin · 04/02/2011 20:30

One large glass of Wine nearly finished!

Plan is to set my alarm for 6:45, which is normal work time. Then switch it off, cuddle up and say something like "You know what? I can't be arsed with work today, think I'll just stay here" then watch his head explode. Then explain it's part one of his present...

The nicest reason to lie I've seen on here Grin

The waiting game is terrible, but not long to go now.

Have a fantastic time Smile

YANBU. It's in a good cause. Have a Wine for me, and have a great time.

Soups · 04/02/2011 20:35

YANBU to lie to him. You are for feeling guilty Smile. Hope all your plans go smoothly and have a wonderful weekend.

Oooh that is exciting :)

On my DP's last birthday (mid-summer) I made him get up early, put on a knight's helmet that I'd bought, and go on a 'quest' around town where I'd hidden specific objects. They all added up to form a clue to his birthday present.

Well, I had fun, anyhow! Grin

5inthebed · 04/02/2011 20:37

That sounds like a great plan :)

LoopyLoopsPoopaScoop · 04/02/2011 20:42

:) Lucky DH :)

Enjoy :)

purplepidjin · 04/02/2011 20:55

I like it, Rev! Not sure my DP would tolerate a helmet in public...

pidjin - he had no choice. He had a sword as well. I have a picture of him on my phone eating breakfast in a greasy spoon with both. His mum think it's hilarious :)
