I hate them..really do..I am five foot and not made to paint ceilings. I am having a big sulk and off to eat a cream egg.

YANBU hate them too!

cybbo · 03/02/2011 15:27

get a roller on a pole and stop moaning

Grin
Slightlyreluctantexpat · 03/02/2011 15:29

YANBU - makes your arms ache. Suggest a good ladder and lots of breaks (and creme eggs too).

BlueCollie · 03/02/2011 15:31

I've tried that and I do have an extendable roller but I am so shite I miss most of it and it takes longer than running up and down a ladder. Where's DIY SOS when you need them Grin
Waiting for it to dry...that annoying me too as I have a back physio class and so won't be able to wack another coat on yet.

And a pair of old knickers on your head to stop paint dripping in your hair (or is that just me? Smile

milkmoustache · 03/02/2011 15:32

Roller is the only way to do it. Do the edges and corners first and the rest will feel a lot faster. After painting 10 newly plastered ceilings in my previous house (3 coats each!) my biceps were impressive, but the flecks of paint sprayed all over my face less good. I got a special hat from Oxfam to cover up with. You will feel SO pleased when it's finished!

mommmmyof2 · 03/02/2011 15:34

Rollers are ok but you have to put more pressure on and yes your arms ache and paint goes on your head! But I just don't do mine now get dh or someone else to do the ceilings Grin

upahill · 03/02/2011 15:37

I hate any form of decorating and Dh is worse at hating it than me.

This is why (to my dad's disgust) we always pay someone to do it!

When we were really skint we just didn't decorate - simple!!!

Callisto · 03/02/2011 15:38

Just never look up. You can then ignore any cobwebs too.

Serendippy · 03/02/2011 15:40

I hope you are letting your DC help, remember, they should be involved in everything you do or else they will be made to feel like second class citizens.

mommmmyof2 · 03/02/2011 15:41
Confused
BlueCollie · 03/02/2011 15:46

LOL. Son has been thrown at his Grandma and banned until ceiling painted..the poor second class citizen that he is. He would drink the paint being only 1 Grin
Upahill - we are really skint but we have a plastered ceiling from when we moved in last April and it has been bugging me. Plus I am that bored from being so skint it is giving me something to do and given me an excuse to be child free for the afternoon/evening and of course come on MN while the paint dries..

I don't think it does your back much good really Blue Collie. I find it gives me terrible shoulder/neck pain and I'm on medication for days afterwards. Probably costs more to buy the pills than to get a man in ! Smile

Serendippy · 03/02/2011 15:48

FGS crosswordaddict don't let any of the feminists hear you talking like that. Get a person in...

upahill · 03/02/2011 15:50

Fair enough BlueCollie but I really hope you are not like me.
I used to start a decorating project and get bored 1/3rd of the way through and abandon it.

It used drive DH bonkers so another reason why I don't do decorating!

Bramshott · 03/02/2011 15:51

The only thing worse than painting them is wallpapering the buggers . . .

pinkhebe · 03/02/2011 15:53

no I disagree Bramshott, removing woodchip paper from the ceiling has got to be the worst Wink

CrosswordAddict · 03/02/2011 15:55

What about swirly Artex ceilings from the 70's? They are the pits IMO

BlueCollie · 03/02/2011 15:59

We had to remove polystyrene tiles from ceiling and toilet walls not that wasn't fun, nor was the woodchip paper. What were people thinking???
Upahill - I have no choice but to carry on as DH off with the Army until April.
Crosswordaddict - it's okay I have an hours back physio class (torture session) at 5pm that'll sort me right out LOL

OP posts:
Bramshott · 03/02/2011 16:00

Ah, that's a good point. The only reason I was wallpapering it was because we had steamed the worst of the artex off and were left with a somewhat bumpy result Grin.
