Budget, high,(hire venue & party planner) medium(hire caterer, possibly a venue and band) or do it yourself(party at home, prepare food, decor yourself)?

You could have the guests dress from the year he was born? 1980's I guess? Or do a theme of his favorite place/thing? Like if he loves Jamaica, have Jamaican food, music and colours.

Make a slide show of funny/touching moments of his life. Blow up pics as posters of him as a new born, and various interesting moments of his life.
Decorate with tons of strreamers and baloons, and get a band. Disco ball and coloured lights, even some entertainment to come in. Like a stand up comic to make a funny speech/toast to/about your dh?www.classiquepromotions.co.uk/?genre=11&page=692#0 Or a dance troupe to come perform for a half hour.

Hire a caterer or get a bunch of people to help prepare food, to ease the workload.
Is it going to be a surprise party?
Get a fantastic cake for him!
Hire a really good dj or band.
Good food, and music are a must. Whether it be his favorite hamburgers bbq'ed and a selection of music you choose yourself, or a caterer and a band.
