Bill Bailey interviewed Jo Brand last night...about her tastes in comedy. It is an interesting series.

I was suprised to read that present comedy
whizz kid, Michael Macintyrem is upset that older comics dont rate him

Why bother if you are making 100 grand and filling big venues.?

Even if you are making money, you still want the respect of your peers/colleagues.

Bill Bailey just does so many different things in his routine like his music and singing, very talented man.

Macintyre only does the talking bit, which is only funny to a smallish group of people, for a certain amount of time.

Once people have moved on from his act, he's going to have to find another angle or go under.

Well Mac is probably a millionaire already. Cry no tears

Trill..A lot of comics loathe each other . Its competition.."Gabby"

If you respect someone's work and think they have good taste, you want them to respect you.

GabbyLoggon · 19/01/2011 15:46

Is "good taste" comedy funny Trill?

I only ask because there is a feeling that ma\ny good comics are dangerous to authority.

Obviously Bill Bailey is not. He just displays great versatility.

But all the genuine satirists are edgy.

Even Ben Elton scared a few politicians before he got rich and comfortable
Its a big subject. cheers "Gabby"

Saw Ed Byrne recently, he made quite barbed remark about Michael MacIntyre recycling some of his material. That's definitely not gonna help you be popular.

I don't see that it has to be one thing or another. I love Bill Bailey (saw him live recently), but I also find Michael McIntyre very funny as well. I think comedians are probably deeply insecure individuals and find it quite hard to revel in the success of someone like McIntyre, who is not "edgy". But the Billy Connolly was not edgy either, and I think he's acknowledged to be one of the best.

There's space for all kinds of humour to me. I like a bit of silly childish Dick and Dom, political satire (LOVE The Daily show) and really clever wordmiths like Eddie Izzard and Bill Bailey.

Oh and Tim Vine's puns are brilliant, but I doubt every one of them is truly original - I imagine someone like Bob Monkhouse will have got there first
