to think that horrid henry's parents are useless and the source of all his bad behaviour?

CITV seems to constantly be playing this atm.

I do feel sorry for horrid henry though as his parents treat him so badly compared to perfect peter.

Example: Henry's parents won't take him to see his favourite band for no reason other than they don't like them but they all have to go and see Peter's favourite 'happy hippos'. OR where Peter decides to misbehave for a day and everything is blamed on Henry even when Peter admits to it.

HEnry can't do anything right. Peter can't do anything wrong. No wonder Henry plays up all the time. And he isn't usually that badly behaved.

AIBU in thinking that his parents need some lessons in how to parent?

of course they are. and it now at the chicken and egg stage. However my dcs love horrid henry because he is so foul.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 18/01/2011 16:35

Totally agree. I would much rather be parent to HH than his ghastly brother. They don't deserve him IMHO.

jonicomelately · 18/01/2011 16:36

YANBU

Watching HH makes me feel like the perfect mother with perfect children.

PortBlacksandEventually · 18/01/2011 16:37

Oh yes they are such drips. They would bring out the 'Henry' in anyone...

nannynobnobs · 18/01/2011 16:37

I hate it. "Don't be horrid, Henry!" criticise the behaviour, not the child etc :)

I agree. I hate Horrid Henry. I hate the way the parents speak to him.

Sadly ds loves the books. We try to avoid it on CITV not least because all 3 of mine then start the "na na na na na" thing which just drives me insane!

overmydeadbody · 18/01/2011 16:40

Couldn't agree with you more.

I couldn't stand reading them to DS, I would always go off on a tangent and fume about how terribel they where as parents. Eventually DS stopped asking me to read them to him.

Thnak god he's grown out of them.

Was Francesca Simon a parent when she wrote these? I bet she wasn't.

yanbu
I think they are related to Charlie and Lola's parents, who use poor charlie as he is used as un paid child minder.
HH parents are mean,

PortBlacksandEventually · 18/01/2011 16:44

and Max and Ruby's parents too - who do the same with Ruby.

Bet HH is the first in his family to go to Uni

queenofboak · 18/01/2011 16:44

What about that pyromaniac evil Norman from Fireman Sam, mother is total wet blanket.

ChickensFlyingUnderTheRadar · 18/01/2011 16:44

YANBU. I much prefer Henry to his annoying, simpering brother.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 18/01/2011 16:46

I lurve Horrid Henry, his mothers a total cow tho, in fact the first book (when he saves Perfect Peter from a dog and his mum shouts at him because she thought he'd hurt Peter ) made my cry

Erm......Blush

2shoes · 18/01/2011 16:48

oh I like Norman, he cares about animals

TheArmadillo · 18/01/2011 16:52

That book makes me want to cry as well. THe way it says 'henry was such a horrid baby' 'Peter was such a lovely baby' and that bit with the dog just makes me want to slap the mum.

OP posts:
TheArmadillo · 18/01/2011 16:57

I don't know who max and ruby are but agree that poor charlie seems to raise his sister single handedly.

Norman's purpose in life seems to be to keep the local fire brigade in business. They'd have nothing to do if it wasn't for him. Wonder where his dad is as his mum is mrs price. I quite like norman as well - he isn't cruel and I feel sorry for his mum who seems to be doing her best while being looked down upon by the rest of the neighbourhood.

Parents on tv aren't coming off well so far.

Horrid Henry makes me want to scoop him up and give him a home where he is liked adn treated as a worthwhile human being.

Max and Ruby's parents have obviously gone to Cancun or somewhere and abandoned them, and Grandma is covering it up.

The Horrid Henry's we like most are the knickers and the doll ones, and the one where Henry is good and Peter gets sent to bed early. But most of children's literature has hopeless parents, or lost parents; as otherwise you can't get a good story.

SmethwickBelle · 18/01/2011 17:03

Where is Norman Price's dad in all this? It's all very well criticising Dilys but be fair she's a lone parent trying to keep her business going.

jonicomelately · 18/01/2011 17:03

HH is going to be VERY angry with his mother when he gets older.

JessicaRabid · 18/01/2011 17:12

Award for worst parenting goes to the Pickles family in The Rugrats. Those small babies are never supervised, even on a boat, and they play in the rubbish bins. They had all 4 babies shoved in one cot to sleep for the night, fully clothed and no covers Shock

I try to express my concerns to DH who tells me its just a cartoon and looks at me like this Hmm

twirlymum · 18/01/2011 17:13

Cancun, or the great rabbit pie in sky?

2shoes · 18/01/2011 17:15

the pickles are terrible, they never pay attention to the rug rats

queenofboak · 18/01/2011 17:16

Grin @ Jessica

So true! I revise my opinion. I am tempted to call SS on them........
