to think that after 3 years....

the folk who lived in our house should really have sorted out their mail? We've been in our house nearly 3 years and STILL get mail for the folk who lived here before. I can understand the odd christmas card etc, but still getting bank stuff, National savings stuff etc etc. I used to be very good and put their new address on and stick back in the post - but it's a bloody nuisance (get about 5 things a week) - AIBU to just dump the stuff??

Can't you just put Not Known at This Address? Then it will get returned to sender and the business trying to get in touch could contact them via phone or e-mail to get their new address.

Maybe u should redirect one and put on back of envelope, no longer redirecting and further mail i will assume u dont want and bin

I just bin anything that comes here for the old occupiers. It's there fault for not sorting it out and I wouldn't go to the effort of putting it back in the post

You can get it re-routed, go to the post office and fill out the form. There might be a fee, pay it and send the invoice to the people who used to live there.

That being said, I think you can ask the post office to not send anything in certain persons name, especially if you own the property

Don't think you can redirect if you are not the addressee? But might check that out.

Why should you pay for there postal redirect? You need ID so you won't be able to do. Return everything to sender stating they are no longer at your address.

Only the named person can redirect, you have to take in ID.
Technically it is illegal to bin stuff or open it to contact the sender.

I just put "Not at this address for X years, please remove from database".

So far only one thing has come again that I am aware of.

The people who used to have our phone number still give it out EIGHT YEARS LATER.

I know more about their business than they do: what squadron he was in, what sort of bath lift the council are fitting for her, what they owe on some catalogue - it winds me up beyond belief.

Stop redirecting. Put a cross through the direction, circle the sender, and write NKATA on the front. The companies will sort it out eventually.

MIL got a letter for the previous owner of her house the other day. She's lived there for 22 years! Shock

Ive been in my house for 12 years and we still get the odd letter for the previous owners!!

For years i would write, not known at the address and pop them back in the post box, but i got sick to the back teeth of it, so now i just sling them.

Send it back to the company that sent it.

Just sending it on to the new people will mean they can be lazy. With a bit of luck the bank should change the address if you keep sending it back.

I'm still getting letters from a spanish bank for the previous owner of my house and he died 6 years ago. I've sent it to them, the solicitors, his family etc and still it comes!

We do too - we just put 'return to sender, no longer @ this address' on the envelope and bung it in the post box whenever we are passing, then they stop sending eventually.

Also, speak to your postman (or call the office), as he can return them before you get them. We can spot when our postie is on holiday as the 7-yrs-gone previous owner gets insurance quotes, etc. And the odd council tax summons for another property...

lal123 - I feel your pain. We'll be in our house 4 years in August and we still get stuff for the previous owners and for previous tenants. One was even a court summons ! To make it even worse for us the previous owners never left a forwarding address. Angry

YANBU. We have been living in our house for 6 years and still get mail for the previous occupants too. At first I put "no longer at this address", now I chuck it all in the bin. If it was that important they would have organised to get it.

I open our previous owners mail, 8 years after they moved from here to see if there is anything interesting in it, then I bin it. They don't care why should you?

My old house keeps forwarding mail on. It's all junk & I phone & tell the sender but it's not slowing down. They must get fed up but not sire what else I can do

I rent my parents house and we still get mail inc xmas cards for the lady who lived here before us. We moved in 30 years ago and she has been dead for 20!

If it's junk mail you can use the mail preference service to stop it by registering their names at your address.

People who lived in my house still use the address for credit.

Had a knock at the door from TV Licensing checking up on them because they'd bought a telly, given are address but weren't registered.

I chuck their post in the recycling bin.

YANBU.

We've lived in our house for 5 years, we get around 4 or 5 pieces of mail each day for the previous owner. She gets more post than DH and I put together!

I spend a considerable amount of time returning it all to the sender. The amount of mail we get is so vast it'll always be a problem I think.

She literally sighed up for everything. Junk mail, charities, credit and joined every mailing list known to man. It's just never ending, but it does however make good kindling for our fire Grin

just return to sender. otherwise you'll continually get it.
