To hate living in Manchester (and North in general)

Moved here four years ago to be with DH, and I still cannot get used to it. We are in a nicest area of Manchester, and it is still feels very provincial and boring. I dream about living in London, but DH does not want to look for a new job. I feel like there is no point and don?t want to decorate the house, make friends, etc, I just fantasise about being in London every single day. There is not much to do here, no nice streets or galleries, not much to do on the weekends as a family. I went to London this weekend, it was so painful to come back. Does anybody else feel this way?

Somewhere central-lovely.

I got depressed when we bought our house in zone 3, having previously lived more central. There's no way I would've moved up north. It's hard to explain why, but I understand why you felt how you did.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 08/02/2017 20:20

Ah I just saw you are depressed .thats a bummer OP - please assess that - and it's a marathon- not a sprint . Good luck

SaltySalt · 08/02/2017 20:23

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses

I'm near mobberly which pub do you mean? Looking for somewhere nice.

ILikeMilk · 08/02/2017 20:23

Cosmic, I know exactly what you mean! We decided to stick to a central location, even if that meant a serious downsizing. After years in the sticks I was craving change.

I am not depressed anymore. I was never depressed before or after living in Manchester. I think it's the combination of constant rain, lack of mental stimulation and the constant thoughts about what i was missing got to me.

Do you realise what a fucking arse you sound?
Hale isn't even in Manchester and how you can say it's a shit hole is beyond me. I live in Bowden and I really am confused!

MagdaS · 08/02/2017 20:25

Alty Leisure Centre is a terrible example. It's being demolished in a couple of years and a brand spanking new one built in its place. Of course the Council aren't going to chuck a load of money at it now and soon enough it will be a 5* facility. But I suspect your hatred of the area meant you didn't read the local press where you would have found that out.

ILikeMilk · 08/02/2017 20:27

I thought it was Bowdon? ;)

OP posts:
Cosmicglitterpug · 08/02/2017 20:27

Well I hope you're happy there.
I'm hoping for a move back in in a few years!

MagdaS · 08/02/2017 20:36

It's definitely Bowdon. And many of its residents do think Hale is a shit hole Grin

GoesDownLikeACupOfColdSick · 08/02/2017 20:36

Lack of mental stimulation? You do realise you sound as if you don't have a brain to stimulate, don't you?!

Hahahaha. Twats who think London is the only place to be are so narrow minded and idiotic, and yet there's a fair few of them. It's a great city. But there's brilliant things to do in lots of places.

ILikeMilk · 08/02/2017 20:44

Goes down, don't forget that I am not from UK originally. I also lived in many cosmopolitan cities and got used to a different pace of life. I could not find any decent galleries/museums in Manchester. Also people in my area were largely uninspiring and treated me as an outsider. I was actually surprised that mothers at DC London school had approached me first and wanted to talk to me/socialise after school. Nobody ever spoke to me at our ex prep/invited DC for a playdate because I was the only foreign mum and they used to ignore me in the playground.

You sound like a bloody snob- haven't got past the first page.
Think the fact that I live in "awful" Liverpool has hit a nerve, this place is amazing, full of tourists from all over the world and a million things to do.
Have my first biscuit and shove it where the
sun don't shine Biscuit

ItsyBitsyBikini · 08/02/2017 20:49

Shedone high five to slatterys! I used to walk through Burrs to get home from school. Loved it. There is so much to do in Manchester.
I love living here but I'm biased as I grew up in a tiny town and have just moved round the m60 Grin now back near my home town and I love it for my DS. Parks everywhere, great museums and art galleries, great little walks and we're close enough to get out of the city if we want.

Zoflorabore · 08/02/2017 20:56

Zombie thread Hmm

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 08/02/2017 20:59

I was in Liverpool for the first time ever recently. Didn't get much of a chance to sightsee but was very favourably impressed by what I did see.

Would like to go back. Smile

ILikeMilk · 08/02/2017 21:01

Yes Zoflorabore, I wanted to update it to give some hope to others in a similar situation. I got several PMs a few years ago, but I never came around to updating till now.

Laughing so hard at you op. You sound so pompous- thank goodness you moved back to London. You are a shining example of your quote early on about not being able to by class. You clearly have none. It was probably your stinking attitude that made the school mums not talk to you. There are plenty of foreign mums and children at both of my dc's prep school who do fine. You were the problem, not the place. I'm glad you found a place to be happy in London, please never come back.

ILikeMilk · 08/02/2017 21:04

I was not planning to PunkAss :) and thank you for your gracious reply Grin

PunkAssMoFo · 08/02/2017 21:05

You haven't exactly been gracious yourself!

museumum · 08/02/2017 21:08

The Witworth gallery won museum of the year last year for the whole uk.
There are many other museums and galleries in Manchester, all very well thought of in the sector.

GoesDownLikeACupOfColdSick · 08/02/2017 21:08

It doesn't matter where you are born, Op. to say that only London is good enough for you in the U.K. makes you an utter snob who isn't even smart or open minded enough find things that aren't blatantly signposted for tourists.

Hope you enjoy all the lovely queues down here in all those museums though. They are just so stimulating, I find!!!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 08/02/2017 21:10

Are you back in London OP !?!?!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 08/02/2017 21:11

Punk ! Want some salt for that chip ?

ILikeMilk · 08/02/2017 21:13

I am indeed, stopfucking :)
