To let someone know they've thanked me for the wrong gift?

I've just received a thank you card for a gift I didn't buy. It was for a little girl's birthday and I had sellotaped the birthday card to the gift so that they would know who had brought what when they opened them later.

Anyway the mother has sent a lovely note all about how the gift is her daughter's new favourite toy and how did we know she loved that (er, we didn't) etc etc

Would you let her know about the mix-up? (Presumably the sender of the fabulous gift has received a note thanking them for ours?!) Or just let it go?

Just let it go...you will only embarrass them unnecessarily!

I would let them know. It shouldnt be embarassing, and would save future mix ups if she has got her addresses muddled.

How do you know that the daughter's new favourite gift isn't what you bought?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/01/2011 13:22

Oh, it probably wasn't one of those vague letters that I excell at.

I'd let it go, unless it's a Mum you are particularly friendly with and you could both have a little laugh about it.

Was it a better present than what you bought? If so I would leave it and put it down to the frenzy of unwrapping at Christmas!

jasper · 07/01/2011 13:36

let it go

ashamedandconfused · 07/01/2011 13:38

2 guests with the same name, or same wrapping paper?

I wouldn't say anything TBH

SoLongAsItsHealthy · 07/01/2011 13:54

Ok, I'll let it go. Don't want to make her feel bad. I guess it may still come to light if the other person says something... I'll just keep my fingers crossed their present was way more expensive than ours!
