to think XP is bonkers?

XP and I split up before DS was born in April. XP pays the maintenance he is supposed to and sees DS infrequently (his choice). When DS was born XP bought him a little outfit, fairly standard baby boy kind, and DS wore it a few times before outgrowing it. XP recently saw DS and asked why he was not wearing the outfit. I explained it was now too small. XP now wants the outfit back. I think this is really odd, I saw it as a gift to DS and am a bit Hmm It's not worth an argument over so I will probably give it back next time I see him. But I wonder where it will end, eg will he want the Christmas present he gave to DS back in a few months? He's not in a relationship as far as I know so it's not like he is planning any more kids soon Confused

YANBU, he is bonkers, and probably trying to have some control over you.

Maybe he knows someone he'd like to pass it on to? I used to pass all my baby clothes on to friends.

Bonkers why? I know loads of people that pass on little outfits that haven't been worn for long and are still in good condition??

Sounds peculiar. I wouldn't give the outfit back because I think it sets a precedent. So what if it causes an argument?... his choice. Start as you mean to go on.

How many of us keep small outfits as a reminder of how tiny our babies once were??? I know I have a few things I've kept as a memento!

Well, I would give it back because it is now of no use to you. But I do think it's a bit odd. Still, I would hand it back while laughing and asking him when he'll be wearing it.

I think like thefatladyscreams he might want it for sentimental reasons, or just to pass on to someone as he knows he grew out of it so quick it wasn't worn much.

Why don't you just ask him? Surely it's no big deal?

I expect he wants it back as a memento, the first thing he bought his son. I'd see it as a positive sign that he loves him and thinks about him, even though he chooses to see him infrequently,

Just give it to him... I fear that this will be just one of the small things not worth sweating over. Save yourself for the big stuff.

i kept both of my children's first outfits, maybe he would like to do the same.

I'd be surprised if it were for sentimental reasons as he won't accept the photos I have tried to give him of DS which I would have thought were a better reminder? XP is older than I am and generally all his friends are done having children whereas most of mine seem to be giving birth around now, so if he hadn't asked for it back I might have passed it on. Though I was considering keeping it in case XP does a total disappearing act, at least I could show it to DS when he is older.

I would give it back and mark it down as something just not worth battling over. It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things

I reckon he thinks you have got rid of it for some reason and asking for it back is his way of testing you...

and, IMO, ALL xp's are bonkers. Either they don't want to be with me any more, which must mean they are bonkers - or I don;t want to be with them any more, because they bonkers. Innit!
