my 12 year old brother had about £1000 spent on him for xmas and i had about £30?!!

Ok i am 27 and have 2 dc of my own and no its not about presents but my mum said she couldnt afford xmas due to outstanding debts ...this is fine BUT my brother has had a top of the range laptop as well as loads of other expensive things while i had a couple of bits?!!

Ok dont slate me but aibu to think she cant afford xmas for me and my dc but my brother gets loads?!!

YANBU to wonder why she spent so much on him, but YABU to feel jealous of a child when you are an adult.

Because you're 27 and have your own children and because he is still a child?

But £1000 sounds increbidly excessive. Be grateful you had £30 spent on you. I had nothing from my parents who are more than able to afford it.

Maybe she bought it on the never never...and 12 year olds should really get more than 27 year olds to be honest..

My youngest had 700 my eldest 70. The eldest does not need anything and did not want anything, in fact he went home with only one of his presents, left the rest as he wouldn't wear it, it didn't fit, and the aftershave reminded him of his dad.

YANBU.... Doesn't matter how old children are or what the age-gap is, conspicuous favouritism is always going to stick in the throat.

I would not expect much once grown up and left home, me and Mum do spend about 30 on each other but she buys the kids stuff too.

My parents stopped buying anything more than token presents for my siblings and I when we started work. I spend more on my 15 year old than I do on my elder daughter who is in her twenties, working and has left home. I think that is the norm in most households, so YABU>

oh just to add i have 2 sisters aswell and we have never ever had loads spent on us at xmas by my mum - my brother went to his dads for xmas and only got back yesterday so had lots there too - actually i think i started this thread all wrong and infact its not i only got £30 and he had expensive pressies its that she has had no money all over xmas for anything and is in major debt but still managed to find money for a top of the range laptop

At 12 he would need a laptop for his school studies you cannot really moan about him having something he seriously needs to complete his education.

Why not ask her how she managed it as she told you she was skint, its clearly on the never never.

Classy diva its not for school and i wont ask her because i dont want to make her feel shit i just asked because i was trying to work out if im reasonable to wonder - and its not on a credit card - she cant get credit so ive no idea where its come from - i suppose its a little resentment and it lies much deeper than this .sorry i started this now can i remove it??

A 12 year old does not need a top of the range laptop. Hardly anyone does.

However your mum is old enough to manage her money, leave her to it.

You can try reporting your own first post to MNHQ and asking them to remove it but I doubt they will as they don't tend to unless for a very good reason. If you don't want to read any more replies, just Hide the thread. :)
