Is The Sims 2 computer game ok for ages 7+? The same game is rated for TEENS in the US! It contains some pretty inappropriate stuff...

My 10 year old daughter got this for Christmas and has been playing it with her 7 year old sis. I walked in on them playing & two of the game's characters were in bed together in underwear about to make 'woo hoo' as the game calls it to have a baby. This does not seem right. Very OTT for young children no? Box says 7+ & DH thinks I'm being a spoil sport. Same game is US is rated T for teens. Help!

our copies (have an expansion pack as well) say 12/12+. The older DDs edit what they are doing when DD3(8) is playing with them.

I don't think you're being a spoilsport, but I don't think it's really that inappropriate. After all, if you use the "special kiss" line to explain reproduction to your kids, ths sort of fits in with it.

(DISCLAIMER- I love the Sims and will defend it, always. :o

How old were your dds when they started playing? Ours says 7+ but has the same cover and appears to be the same as the 12+ or US Teen version. I'm just not sure, the whole premise seems odd toe me and like it might make a kid grow up a little quickly unless you are there monitoring them which is a bore & I have no time for!

I'm not british (and not prudish) but I do feel 7 is a little young for the birds and the bees talk, but that's just me. Had it with other daughter at 9. Of course everyone has different opinions on that one!

I don't think it's massively unsuitable. If you want to pretend that babies aren't made by adults sleeping together, tell them to obtain children via telephone (the Sims can adopt). The game is nothing explicit, it's called 'woohoo' which is pretty innocent, and all they do is just disappear under the covers for a few seconds and emerge pregnant.

Sims 3 is a bit more unsuitable I think, but still better than most TV programmes.

This thread was started in 2010 so OP’s kids are adults by now.
