I have a stinking cold and it keeps telling me to rush for a pee otherwise there will be a world crisis - yet when I get there I am producing a teaspoonful at best!

Stinking cold might be disguising feverish unwell feeling you get with a uti. Take a sample to the docs, they'll tell you if there's any reason to be concerned.
And drink lots of water.

Cystitis, UTI, Urinary infection = all meaning the same thing here.

Don't have any cranberry juice and I bet Vimto doesn't have the same effect :) but I am going to have to venture out into the snow later so I'll get some.

Thanks all, I'll follow your advice as even if I don't have a UTI it can't hurt, and I should drink more water than I currently do anyway.

Are you coughing a lot? - I find if I cough I feel as if I need a pee even if there isn't much there. Mind you I'm ancient [slack bladder emoticon].

And joy of joys, I now have to stop and cross my legs before sneezing or coughing. Hurrah.

I have a weak bladder yet I find I'm much better if I drink shed loads of water. I wee more in volume, but lose that irritated bladder feeling.
