On mobile phone & running red light

Yesterday I had to walk to a shop about 30 mins away from me due to bad weather. I took both my DS with age 4 and 8. we arrived at the shop, got our bits and then left. went to cross at the crossing, pushed the button, the green man flashing for us to cross and some idiot woman speeding down the road on her mobile phone nearly mowed us down going through the red light. I was furiouse, if it had been my DS8 on his own he she would have run him over, just lucky I had my wits about me. Stupid people like this should be banned from driving. AIBU?

YANBU. Driving penalties are far too soft. I can't beleive the maximum sentence for death by dangerous driving is only two years. I also can't beleive that people don't get lifetime bans whne they have proved they repeatedly disregard the law. Driving is not a birthright.

Dont suppose you got her reg number did you ?

RiojaLover75 · 19/12/2010 08:59

YANBU! Bloody, dangerous woman driver. Shame you didn't catch her number plate.

Hope you and boys are OK after your terrible experience.

That's bloomin' awful!! Don't suppose there is CCTV mounted on the lights is there?
Might be worth reporting?
God ..... some people Angry Glad you were quick off the mark but I bet you felt wobbly after!

LittleMoosh · 19/12/2010 11:38

I did catch the reg no but thought police wouldn't be interested. Do you think I should give them a call

It's worth a try maybe!
And if there is CCTV footage they may be able to take action because there will be other evidence.
Possibly there's a police officer on here who can advise?

Petsville · 19/12/2010 12:22

Hate to say it, but as no-one was hurt the police won't give a stuff, so it's not worth reporting it. I've stopped reporting near-misses where idiot drivers have jumped red lights / done stupid things while on mobile phones as they just make it clear that they're not interested and won't do anything - I have to be dead or badly hurt first.Sad

Megletitsnow · 19/12/2010 12:25

I've reported my neighbour for constantly using her phone and driving. The police were fine when I called them, obviously they won't go out and arrest her as they have to see her doing it but they've put it on file so they know other people have had concerns (at least that's what they told me).

StayingFatherChristmasGirl · 19/12/2010 12:57

I would report it in a heartbeat.

BetsyBoop · 19/12/2010 13:23

YANBU

using a mobile while driving is stupid

running a red light is stupid

doing either (or both in this case) when the weather/roads are bad is beyond stupid Angry
