bugger. That is really bad. Glad to hear you are better now. I would complain.

Glad to hear you are OK now, APB! I have a latex allergy too, and now am in the habit of reminding any medical professional I come across! I have only ever had near misses, so don't trust anyone!

differentnameforthis · 18/12/2010 09:47

In fact, some medical professionals are quite dismissive of it. When I was in hospital, pregnant with dd1 (I was induced due to PE) one nurse bought in the usual Eclampsia kit & then another took it out & bought in the latex free eclampsia kit!

The one who had bought it in originally said "I don't know why you worry about latex allergy, it doesn't do any harm, I have it but still wear the gloves"

Not in much mind to argue, I just said, that the last time I was in contact with it my eyes swelled shut & my throat felt scratchy, so if it was all the same to her, I would avoid it as much as possible!

Fast forward to dd2 birth (section) I was first in because they had to remove any traces of latex from the theatre & I was guaranteed my own room! (Different hospital)

There is still a lot of ignorance about this allergy, for some reason!
