when people seek you out to talk to you and then answer their mobile, without excusing themselves, while you are talking. 2 of my neighbours are constantly doing that and another man who came to my house, midway through conversation, his phone rang and he didn't even say, "sorry just let me take this" he just answered it and started talking. i told him "see you later" and walked away.

AIBU?

No not being unreasonable at all. That's just rude not to excuse themselves to you Shock.

YANBU
It is just plain rude
Face to face conversation should take first priority, unless you are expecting an urgent call. Even than you should excuse yourself before answering.

i just don't get it. my neighbour came over yesterday to ask to borrow something. he house is 20ft away from mine and her front door was open but she brought her mobile with her. she asked me if i had the thing she wanted, i replied i didn't but was in the middle of suggesting our other neighbour when she answered her phone and started backing away, not looking at me anymore. i just gave a slight wave and shut the door. i wonder if she would have answered if i did have the thing she wanted? (only if i was useful to her i was worthy of her attention Grin)

YANBatallU - I think it's very rude.

TryLikingClarity · 28/10/2010 21:32

Your neighbours are ignorant eejets; don't open the door to them.

SandStorm · 28/10/2010 21:36

I have the same view on landlines actually. If we're in the middle of dinner we let the answerphone get it. Or if I have friends round.

And why is everyone so wedded to their mobiles? What did we all do 10, 15, 20 years ago? We didn't have them then and we all seem to have survived and coped.

i agree about landlines too sandstorm. i hate being so contactable. i always 'forget' to plug my landline back in after hoovering. Grin

ha ha TLC, i would have ignored her except i was hoovering and she came up to the kitchen window and knocked so she knew i had seen her.
