Don't know if I'm being over-sensitive or what, maybe I am due to stress at the minute but its really getting to me that DP never says please or thank you.

If I ask him if he wants a coffee he'll just say "yeah". If I give him something (like a gift) he'll just take it and move onto the next topic.

Last night I asked him if he wanted a cup of tea, he said "yeah" so I said "please" and he looked at me as if I was nuts.

AIBU?? it's just basic manners, surely?

YANBU! At all!

YANBU. I remind DP sometimes too. If we want our children to have good manners we should display them ourselves

Chil1234 · 14/10/2010 17:12

YANBU... Bad manners often indicative of other bad personality traits IME. Costs nothing to be polite ... and 'being someone's partner' is no reason to drop common courtesies. Sounds like he needs training.

YANBU

grottielottie · 14/10/2010 17:54

Yanbu but are being taken for granted. Please and thankyou cost nothing.

Wombat33 · 14/10/2010 18:04

YANBU my DH does this as well. In his case I don't think it is that he is taking me for granted and dropping the common courtesies, it's more that his parents, sweet people that they are, have a more 'down to earth' view of these things and never taught him that it was appropriate and expected behaviour of a polite individual.

Thank you for posting, please find my response below:

It depends how he says it.

I always tell my dc you can say 'polite' things rudely eg 'Excuse me please' in snappy voice getting off the bus, or 'non polite' things politely eg 'Yeah I'll have a cuppa' with a smile
