Whenever DH goes out in our village nowadays there is a man who yells abuse at him. His reason being that he sees both of us in the village all the time and knows that we don't work. When DH pointed out (the first time it happened) that I am disabled, he got the response that he's seen me walking so I must be fine. (I have to do a daily walk to stop myself seizing up entirely, 5 mins is my max before I fall over)

So is he being unreasonable? Or am I?

I ask this because there's been a lot of threads recently about posters knowing people who claim benefits who they "know" aren't actually disabled. Who they "know" could work if they weren't just "lazy scroungers".

Is what this man yells any more unreasonable than the posts? Should I just suck it up? Maybe I should drag my scrounging self into work?

He's not the kind of person you can talk to really, he'd have to stop yelling for long enough for you to get a word in edgeways.

Tbh, he is so vile I don't care to talk to him.

Don't see why she should lie, if he ever finds out for any reason, it will just give him more amunition.

I'd be honest with him and calmly explain that if he doesn't stop harrasing you, you will contact the police and seek advice from a solicitor re his harrassment. Then if he continues, do it.

Hmm, agree with PA comments. By the same token that you challenge, how can you be sure that people on other threads who criticise acquaintances of theirs

don't know the peoplethey are commenting on? I think you're making the same kind of assumptions as you accuse them of making.

Just because you're not one of them doesn't mean they're not out there.

I'm talking about the ones who say they've never spoken to the people they are criticising. But feel able to pass comment anyway.

He is obviously unreasonable.

How about yelling at him "WE DON'T HAVE TO WORK, WE HAD A MASSIVE INHERITANCE / WON THE LOTTERY / SOLD OUR BUSINESS AND WE'RE BLOODY LOADED!!!"

It's not true but so what? It might shut him up?
