...wants people to trust her judgement on what is funny, she should try making some programmes that are, in fact, funny?

Yabu dinnerladies is great!

nigglewiggle · 27/09/2010 20:21

I LOVE Victoria Wood, but I disagree with you about Dinnerladies. I sooooo wanted to like it and the cast was fabulous, but sadly it was pants!

tokyonambu · 27/09/2010 20:21

Dinner Ladies was last filmed ten years ago.

It's not that she's complaining about.

She does my swede in. I can't put my finger on why but she does.

YANBU.

fuschiagroan · 27/09/2010 20:28

her stand up makes me wee a little bit. But it's quite old now

jonicomelately · 27/09/2010 20:29

YABVVU.

She is a comic genius.

Crazycatlady · 27/09/2010 20:30

Victoria Wood makes me want to tear my eyeballs out and set my ears on fire.

Slightly less so than Paul McCartney, but she's waaay up there in the World's Most Irritating Face stakes.

Booboobedoo · 27/09/2010 20:30

I have really mixed feelings about this.

I watched that Christmas Special and squirmed through it.

I've hero-worshipped VW for nearly thirty years, but I found that programme unfunny and angry.

I also felt alienated by it, as she announced at the beginning that it was for (as I recall) the over-fifties, and I'm thirty-five. I've seen her live several times, saw Acorn Antiques The Musical (which was fantastic, I thought) and watched everything she's done for telly.

So I felt extremely weird at the negativity expressed towards people in their twenties and thirties.

I think if she's feeling that angry at the moment, she should channel it into more straight drama. At which she excels.

Bunbaker · 27/09/2010 20:30

I think she is very funny. I saw her live in Leeds several years ago and she was brilliant. She is also an excellent straight actress.

southeastastra · 27/09/2010 20:31

i loved the bbc thing she did last christmas, the womens institute thing? was funny!

also loved her railyway programme, she's so good at social commentary things, like john shuttleworth

pointydog · 27/09/2010 20:33

lol @ op.

I am no Wood fan.

Bunbaker · 27/09/2010 20:34

I wonder if it is an age thing. She is only a little older than me and I identify with a lot of things she talks about.

PaulineCampbellJones · 27/09/2010 20:34

I think she is brilliant too. Acorn Antiques was ahead of its time.

pointydog · 27/09/2010 20:35

How old is she?

I always think of her as decades older than me but maybe she's not.

southeastastra · 27/09/2010 20:35

she's probably fed up with the amount of cambridge educated boys getting all the jobs

HecateQueenOfWitches · 27/09/2010 20:36

I think she's really funny.

I particularly love

daftpunk · 27/09/2010 20:36

Acorn Antiques was brilliant.

I like her.

fightingthela · 27/09/2010 20:37

Have a macaroon Biscuit

BellaBearisWideAwake · 27/09/2010 20:41

I generally really like her, and then I saw her being interviewed for the acorn antiques musical with julie walters and she was really unnecessarily rude to the interviewer and it made me a bit cross.

pointydog · 27/09/2010 20:42

How old is she?

She has always seemed to be 51.

Anenome · 27/09/2010 20:43

She's getting old. Comedy writing is a "young" game...there are always exceptions but mostly writers ofcomedy go off the boil in the same way as rock stars...Victoria Wood is a very talented actress and I think she should do more drama.

Marchpane · 27/09/2010 20:44

I love her. She is a genius. The ballad Hecate linked to still makes me roar. And I've been rewatching Pat & Margaret on YouTube and I'd quite like a Dinner Ladies box set please.

I wish she did more stuff and I am 30.

squeaver · 27/09/2010 20:45

I was a HUGE fan. But I actually think it IS true that she doesn't know what's funny any more.

nameymcnamechange · 27/09/2010 20:46

She's 57.

She comes across as arrogant in the interview. And I am a huge fan but I think her Christmas show last year was unfunny and she's had her day. Much like French & Saunders (who have been unfunny for years), Harry Enfield, all sorts of people.

pointydog · 27/09/2010 20:47

57, blimey.
