to think that MN could benefit from an Ignore button?

I've been thinking in the wake of all the horrible trollery.

I know MN has a facility to 'hide' threads, but actually what would be really useful is a button to ignore the posts of a particular user or users.

That way if there was a poster on here you found particularly objectionable then you could just ignore them and not give up completely on what could otherwise be a really good thread.

If a troll popped up you could simply add them to your ignore list, and browse the thread in bliss.

I use another forum that has this system, and whilst I've never used the function there I'd use it quite a bit here.

Opinions?

well surely what you'd get would be a load of posts ranting at the posts of someone you couldn't see? Which wouldn't make any sense at all?

Glitterknickaz · 28/08/2010 13:46

true, but if it was bilge anyway you wouldn't want to read it would you? Grin

I just feel that some really valuable posts get missed when you're compelled to hide a thread due to a minority, is all.

easy to say but there's always an element of wanting to know and being left out

Glitterknickaz · 28/08/2010 13:54

it wouldn't prohibit you from taking people off your list though, if you felt like that

there are some trolls on here I wouldn't feel the slightest bit 'left out' by not reading their posts

I don't think it's a good idea tbh, the thread would make no sense with missing posts and i think MNHQ would have done already if they liked the idea.

Lynli · 28/08/2010 14:11

I think you need to see what the ignorant

people have written, to support the op and

counteract the argument.

gtamom · 28/08/2010 14:52

I have seen that feature on yuku sites, it's a good idea, though never used it myself.

Morloth · 28/08/2010 15:13

I think real life could use an ignore button, an undo would also be good.

cumfy · 28/08/2010 15:42

Ignore list is good idea.

Earlybird · 28/08/2010 15:46

I've used this before on other sites, and it is good.

If you feel you're missing the 'gist' of a thread due to the ignore function, you can always 'unhide' a poster.

IMO, the ignore function makes for a (generally) more pleasant experience......and as this 'isn't the real world anyway', why not be able 'tune out' people you don't like/enjoy? Wink

how do you hide threads?

that bleedin frangipan thread keeps on popping up, i just hoped it would die a natural death!!
