Orange Wednesdays - friends taking advantage

DS has an orange phone which allows him to do the orange wednesday thing at the cinema (buy one, get one free). It all started when DS offered to take his friend to the cinema and suggested he wouldn't have to pay for his ticket. Obviously the friend jumped at the chance and after that day, the friend asked when they could go back and see another film. They went a second time, again DS paid for his ticket and the friend got in for free. The friend then suggested they go AGAIN the week after. At this point I reminded DS that the orange wednesday thing was supposed to benefit both friends and they should take it in turns paying for the ticket. DS worried this would cost him his friendship!!! AIBU in saying the lad should take it in turns to pay?
Anyway DS went to the cinema with a girl today, used orange wednesday and then asked for half the ticket price!!! I thought it sounded a bit tight but then, he's only doing what I told him to do!!

So aibu in telling him he should split costs, not just pay all the time? he's only 11 btw.

I think you're right and he was quite right to ask for half the ticket price.

The other lad should have offered but may not have joined the dots in his head iyswim as he's only 11 - your son may have to spell it out for him.

Yes, should split costs.

Or, someone buys the ticket, and someone buys the sweets/popcorn.

Myleetlepony · 25/08/2010 14:09

Why is it tight to do as you suggested and split the cost with a girl? But it's OK to split the cost with a different friend? He's 11 ffs, it's not a date, whoever the friend is, they should both pay half.

mumoverseas · 25/08/2010 14:10

YANBU, this friend should pay half or they should take it in turns. If he loses the friend over it he is not a true friend and is just a 'user'.
A bit different with him taking a girl though if he was taking her on a 'date'

Orange Wednesday = half price for both of you.

If 3 go you all pay 2/3.

Get sweets in a shop beforehand and sneak them in.

It was ok for him to tell the friend not to pay the first time. But not ok for the freind to ask him to take him!

Funny he charged the girl though Grin

Yeah I think the first time, fair enough, but when it becomes regular, split the cost so each pays half, or take it in turns, (although I would go for paying half, there's no argument about turns that way!)
