Alone in Thailand

My 13yr old son has gone to Thailand with my ex. He has now skyped me to say that he is in a Hotel room alone, on a different floor from his father and with no phone!!!!!!!! Who would do that to a child?!

Sounds ok to me as long as he knows where to find his father (i.e. knows his room number) and as long as his father doesn't leave the hotel without your DS. If his father leaves DS in the hotel while he goes out, that's a bit more worrying.

It may be that your ex thought your DS would feel more comfortable in his own room?

I don't really see a problem with it. Presumably his father is in the same hotel, and he knows where he is? We don't share a room with our 13 year old when we go away. In fact, he'd probably refuse to come if he had to share a room with us!

I wouldn't be happy with that. Is is just your ex and DS? Why wouldn't a father share with his son, even if he is 13? Bit more understandable if it is ex and his new partner, but surely they would have adjoining rooms? Or be on the same floor at the very least? To be on a different floor, and with no phone, seems very strange, sorry.

I also wouldn´t like that tbh.

But more to the point, OP-how does your son feel?

TBH if my husband & son were going away I´d expect them to share a room for convenience & cost as much as anything else.

What did you think the arrangements were going to be? Had your ex implied that he would be sharing with your son? Is your son unhappy? If so, can you contact your ex and ask for your son to be moved to a room closer to ex? I don't really see a problem with the arrangement per se but it would certainly make a difference whether we are talking about an international Holiday Inn/Hilton type of hotel with key-cards, 24-hour reception etc or some local hotel. (The mention of no phone in the room makes me think the latter).
