DD2 (14 mo) was prescribed Cefaclor on Thursday, after a course of Amoxicillin failed to clear up an ear infection. After the 4th dose, nursery phoned me to say she had woken up from her lunchtime nap with a swollen and bright red face. I asked them to give her Piriton and by the time I got there to pick her up, she looked pretty normal again. Took her to the docs, who said in her view it was unlikely that the Cefaclor caused the reaction because she hadn't had any problems with the previous 3 doses the day and morning before. I can't believe it was anything she ate though - chicken in a cheese sauce, melon, she's had those many many times before.
Doc reluctantly changed her ABx to Co-Amoxiclav, which DD2 has been taking since without problems... but what do YOU make of this incident? I am confused and a bit worried about future ABx now...
