I hav come to the conclusion that my bunged upness and general snottiness is an extension of my hideous hayfever (hurrah - a new misery) and not a 3 month long cold.

So will a nose spray work? what sort? I am new to nose symptoms - usually have hayfever eyes.

saline spray alone can work as a wash out

If its painful I would go for a more steriod based one such as beconase but I'm not sure if this is OTC as my dr prescribed mine.

I use cetrizine hydrochloride (?sp) for all hayfever symptons which does my nose and eyes if that helps and it is an OTC med.

Best of luck EG

Flixonase works like a dream for my h/f, after a lifetime of nothing else working. Now available OTC. It won't cure your current snottiness but used every day it prevents that happening. Takes about 2 weeks to work.
