dog/cat allergy-how do you cope when you visit pet filled houses?

my dog allergy has become worse since our pet dog died over a yr ago
I have alwasy had to wash my hands after touching animals but lately I become wheezy and my eyes go itchy red and swollen after being in the house without touching the animals
I have tried cetirizine allergy tablets with minimal effect.
Any other ideas.

I have tried loratidine but it didn't work either (or maybe itching and wheezing would have been much worse without). Depends on animals, some I have to avoid completely so as to avoid serious asthma attack. The worst thing is sleeping in house with pets - what a miserable experience! Such a shame though, 'cos I love animals.

I know it is a right pita.
I stayed at my friends house and wheezed all night long, eyes slit shut ..I was really pissed off.
Trouble is it takes ages for me to recover , eyes look red and swollen for ages afterwards.
I love cats and dogs too.
