DDs intolerance has surfaced again (had been on a "normal" diet for the past 13 months) It's her sisters birthday party on saturday and i would love a good recipe to use to make her some cakes so that she doesn't miss out.

Poor thing has been really poorly with it this week and has requsted herself to go back on wheat/gluten free foods.

Oh, bless her. What sort of cake is her favourite ?

I have lots of nice GF recipes - tbh, most chocolate cake recipes translate fine

Can she have rice flour? If so I have a fabulous book called Red Velvet Chocolate Heartache. I have seen it in a few book shops as well as on-line. It uses vegetables instead of fat and almost everything either uses rice flour or ground almonds instead of wheat flour. The cakes taste amazing (honestly, you'd never know) and there is a recipe for a very grand three tier birthday cake. All the ladies on the Oct postnatal thread are hooked!

Thankyou Cmot, I seem to remember "talking" to you on previous threads as she's been intolerant on and off for four years. we really thought she'd grown out of it.

Chocolate cake is indeed her favourite, I'm sure I've made them before but can't remember if they turned out ok

That sounded like an advert! The cakes are a little bit harder work than a normal run of the mill sponge but it is worth the effort. They are low fat as well so good for parents to munch on too!

nigella's clementine cake is gf, and whenever i make it, i grate loads of chocolate on top whiel it's cooling, giving a nice thick layer of choc ontop...

50ft, she can have rice flour. That book looks interesting, I will try and order it later.

Am resisting buying that book as am trying to lose weight, and am therefore only baking with gluten so I can't eat it...

My fave cupcakes are Nigellas cherry chocolate cupcakes made with Doves Farm gf sr flour. They are moist and gorgeous, and a total doddle to make

And for a lemon drizzle cake, my friend makes this one, and it is totally fantastic

Have made a sponge cake with doves GF flour and a little extra xanthum gum. The gum is the secret of GF cooking
