Dairy/egg free birthday cake recipie?

Hi there - my DD will be 2 next month, and I'd like to make her a cake that is a bit better than the flop (literally) that I made last year. Does anyone have any foolproof and tasty recipies that are dairy and egg free? (soya is OK)

Ideas for decoration for a cake novice also very gratefully received!

If you google vegan chocolate cake you get loads of ideas. I tried one with vegetable oil that worked quite well last week.

For the past two birthdays I've done a giant rice crispie cake sprinkled with hundreds and thousands (using dark chocolate). They've gone down very well with all kids and adults present.

You can also get the icing writing pen things that you can do pretty patterns with that are egg/dairy free.

Ami being a div or is dark chocolate dairy free? Dd2 is 1 next month but we can't have dairy soya egg or wheat so was thinking along the rice kripie route? not that she'll notice but I will..

I used to have a recipe for a cake made using mayonnaise instead of eggs and fat - a friend with a dairy/egg allergic child made the cake using vegan "mayonaise" and it tasted great.

Re decorating: buy/borrow some letter number cutters and then you can use ready-made icing like playdough to write messages on the cake. They are about £5 in Tesco I think. They are a useful longterm buy - I have used for fairy/cupcakes so the display reads happy birthday DD and for lots of other occassions.

The recipe for Chocolate Brownies is the recipe I used for dd's 5th birthday last week. I just made it in a round cake tin. I did add a spoonful of egg replacer powder and a couple of tbsns of golden syrup this time and it came out lovely.

I have this recipe from an egg-free cook book. The cake is ridiculously easy to make and bit heavy-ish (is that a word? don't think so, but never mind...), sticky chocolate cake. Works well with chocolate fudge icing on top (which you can make using oat milk). The recipe is from an american book, so measurements are in cups, but that's not a big problem I think.

3 1/4 cups plain flour
2 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup cocoa or 5 (1oz) squares of dark chocolate, melted (I usually use both)
2 teaspoons baking powder
2/3 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 1/4 cups cold water (though I tend to put rice milk in instead)
2 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 190 oC.
2. In a large bowl, add flour, cocoa and baking powder. Make a well in the centre and add oil, vinegar, water and vanilla. With a wooden spoon stir until smooth.
3. Pour into a pre-greased tin and bake until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean (recipe sayes 40 mins but I've found it longer).
4. Completely cool in pan on a wire rack.

As I say I've found it works well with chocolate fudge icing on it (and some dairy-free chocolate buttons to decorate ).
