Just wanted to say thank you thank you thank you to anyone who posted on my eczema thread a while back. DD was really suffering and driving me nuts in the process! Loads of people suggested Aveeno cream so got some from the doctors and, in our case, it has really worked, it's controlling the eczema nicely and she seems a lot more comfortable. So huge hugs and smiles etc to all you mnetters who helped me out

hi I would also like to second this, I used aveeno cream on mothers from mumsnet recommendation on my daughter face ( she suffers from dry patchy rashes, when she eats certain foods) it has helped it no end, and great for my hands too!

fantastic stuff, thanks everyone

Mog · 23/05/2005 09:23

I'll third this. Just started using on ds (8 months) and has cleared it where other things didn't work.

sassy · 23/05/2005 09:29

Hey dizzy, pleased to see this mate.
Fingers crossed for continued improvement.x

Sponge · 23/05/2005 09:47

I try to use it for dd and it does help but she hates the smell and really makes a fuss when I try to put it on. Anyone else have this or found ways round it?

dizzymama · 23/05/2005 11:39

Sponge - have you got the lotion? I haven't noticed a real smell with this at all, know there are quite a few products in the range, may find a less offensive smell with one of them!
Hi Sassy things appear to be calming down here!!

i also wanna say big thanks to all MN girls! i took me sometime to find Aveeno cream. I've been using it almost for a week now on my ds skin and i must admit his skin has improved a lot!!!!!!! thank you!!!!!!
i got prob 20 tubs of all sorts of creams around the house. You know how difficult to find the ONE....
do you know if I can get it on prescription from GP?

SofiaAmes · 23/05/2005 16:25

Yes, you can get prescription from gp. Sponge, I agree with your dd, I hate the smell of aveeno, but it worked wonders on my dd, so I suffered through it. Have you tried getting her to help you put it on. Make it into a game where she gets a bit on her fingers to rub in on her belly, while you do the rest of her body? Or if she's not old enough for that, try doing it while she's distracted with something else.
By the way, I found that putting it on just after a bath when the pores are open from the heat, gave extra good results.

imation · 25/05/2005 14:42

hi i've got it on presription!!!! huraaaaaH!!!! big 400 ml tub

It's great to see so many convinced by Aveeno! It worked wonders for me too.

Just curious - did many of your doctors know what it was?

I discovered it by my old GP prescribing it for me, but new doctor had never heard it and had to look it up in his book. Since then friends i have recommended it to have found there GP's not keen to prescribe it cos they have never heard of it, but they are not so hesitant in prescribing steroids are they!?

So lets all spread the word. AVEENO is magic!!

Annner · 31/05/2005 22:14

I'll add yet another endorsement to the wondercream. We've got it on prescription, but our GP had never heard of it.

DD loves the smell, but she is used to porridge oats in the bath anyway.

Took to porridge for her breakfast like a duck to water!

MrsDoolittle · 31/05/2005 22:18

I was like you, at my wits end when the GP suggested Dermelo in the bath. I didn't think to ask the doctor for Aveeno, as recommended by MN.
The Dermelo has been absolutely great for us, although it makes a hell of a mess of the bath, noone else on MN seems to have heard of it.
It's great when you find soemthing that works isn't it?

PrincessPeaHead · 31/05/2005 22:20

hurrah, so glad you all like it.
it has been the only cream we've needed to use in this ezcema-prone household since it was recommended to me on here 18 months or more ago...
BTW if anyone doesn't get it on prescription but is going/knows anyone else going to the states, it is about a quarter of the price there. I have a huge stockpile of US import aveeno!

potty1 · 31/05/2005 22:20

My GP is pretty good at doing what he's told . I bought my first lot of Aveeno but told him it was working for dd's excema and he's prescribed it ever since.

bazbird · 02/06/2005 21:24

Hi i'm a new mum and my little baby of 3mths has eczema. I have tried Aveeno cream for a week now and his skin is really clear but he still wants to scratch all the time. How long will this last ? Does Aveeno relieve itch or should I be using something else?

Fran1 · 02/06/2005 21:34

Aveeno does relieve the itching, but only for a short period, so apply it whenever you see him itching - no such thing as too much moisturiser.
And the greasier the skin, the less likely your son will break the skin with nails when he does itch it, which can make it worse and lead to infection.

chicagomum · 02/06/2005 22:02

aveeno does an anti itch range of products particularly for eczema. I've been using aveeno since my ds was a couple of months old. It is quite difficult to get hold of in UK but here in America the whole range is avaliable in most stores ("Boots" equivalents etc)at a fraction of the price. Perhaps I should set up an export company!!!

Amberjee · 13/06/2007 17:58

hi there, is it ok to just use the aveeno lotion, or do you have to get a special baby one? thanks, my son has just recently started getting eczema, he is now 5 months old. its appearing mostly on the back of knees. i tried diprobase 4+ times a day for 2 weeks, but hasn't really made much difference, so am moving onto the aveeno i think. thanks for your help.

SofiaAmes · 14/06/2007 05:36

The regular stuff is just fine.

mamama · 14/06/2007 05:55

it's fab stuff!

kiskidee · 14/06/2007 06:43

bazbird, i apply anveeno 3x a day, everyday on dd's cheeks to keep the itch away.
