Mild eczema and cow's milk

Ds has patches of eczema on the backs of his knees. These started at 6 months when he began solids but are very mild.

A couple of weeks ago (he's now 2) they became a bit worse and for the first time they've caused him to wake at night with itching. We've started using Aveeno cream and he often askes for the cream saying he's got "sore knees".

I had some eczema when I was little so I've been thinking "oh well" and that he'd probably grow out of it like I did, but today for the first time he asked for some milk with his morning snack and I started wondering about a link.

Ds has not had cows milk to drink for the last few months since he dropped a night bottle. He doesn't seem to like it as a main drink although he has it on cereal and lots of yoghurt/cheese. He changed rooms at nursery a couple of weeks ago and I'm wondering if they've been giving milk at snack time (the last room gave water) hence him asking for it today. This would coincide with the eczema getting worse.

I'll ask at the nursery on Monday, but I was wondering if anyone had had this issue with mild eczema and milk, and whether it was likely that milk and not other forms of dairy would cause a reaction. I realise this could all be coincidence!

This is just my own personal experience, but both my children have had mild eczema - DS1 worse than DS2. DS1's first appeared when he started solids and carried off and on until he was about 5 - behind his knees and in the elbow creases. He's 7 now and is fine, he sometimes gets dry skin which I just put E45 or aqueous cream on. DS2 had it from about 6 months but it was always very mild and only lasted until he was about 2. The GP prescribed steroid cream which worked really well, and I never avoided any foods or drinks. Of course it could be the milk, but equally he might just grow out of it! It's just a case of wait and see I think..

Thanks, I'm sure you're right and I don't want to restrict his diet if I don't have to.

The poor soul would be utterly confused - I spent weeks trying to tempt him to drink cows milk and then he takes a fancy to it and I take it off the menu .

I'll ask the nursery out of interest, but if there is a reaction it is very mild.
