DD reacts to pesto - should I see the GP?

I tried it early on in weaning and she came out in an instant blotchy itchy rash wherever it touched. It went away soon after I wiped it off. I didn't think anything of it and just haven't given it again. It happens with raw tomatoes too and occasionally cooked tomatoes. Should I take her to the doctors? TIA

No it was green pesto. I thought it might be the basil as I thought she reacted to something else that had basil in, that may have had tomato in though, can't remember. I think I will take her to the GP. Thanks

They are kernels, not sure if they have the same effect as nuts.

Have just googled and it seems they are seeds, but an allergy to them can be linked to other nut/legume allergies. I haven't offered her anything nutty as yet because I never buy them.

That's what I have been doing so far CS, but I've been thinking about it and now I'm worried about giving her something which would give her a bad reaction without knowing. I know the reaction she's had so far is mild, but I'm a worrier!

I didn't know that about peanuts.

My friends DD started with a pesto allergy and has now developed a peanut allergy. Sorry, you should get it checked just in case.

I knew about peanuts being a legume. She hasn't had peanut butter or anything but has had other legumes with no problem.

DS2 used to go hot and blotchy after egg, but only if had egg on it's own, like scrambled etc, was fine in things etc.
He's nearly 3 now and absolutely fine, he can eat egg with no effects at all.
Best to go to the GP's to ask/get checked out, but it can be a phase they grow out

often pesto contains cashew nuts rather than pine nuts, so it's an idea to check the label and know thy enemy.
dd occasionally had red marks after tomatoes, both raw and sauces, so i just would hold off on them. she still hates raw tomatoes, and now she's older she tells me that they're 'spiky', so i can understand her dislike of them.

Pesto frequently contains cashew nuts too (as I discovered whilst pregnant and craving pesto ). Cashews are certainly 'proper' nuts.

Thanks everybody, I think I will take her to the GP just to be sure, I don't want to start worrying about things I'm giving her.

we never have pesto as my peanut allergic child tests positive for pine nut too.

gps are often pretty useless so you have to decide if you want to go for allergy testing now - when you may have to fight for it - or wait and see. Personally I'd have the tests.

If you don't have tests you need a bottle of liquid piriton (fastest acting antihistamine) to go everywhere with her.
