DS is 2.8 and we found out he was allergic to egg on his first birthday (first taste of cake the wee soul).

So, around 14 months, he had RAST testing and it came in as "high level" at 4.75. I know that isn't high on the grand scale of things, but it still comes under high level on the scale.

They repeated the RAST testing recently, and I haven't been given a figure for it, but it says in the letter that he has "low level" allergy.

Do you think this means he is starting to grow out of it? I would have thought he was a bit young yet, or could his antibody levels have dropped because he hasn't had a single accidental exposure since we discovered the allergy? Is that how it works?

Anybody else with similar?

DS had contact allergy to egg - skin would get hives on touch from 6 months

by 2 years he was fine

egg allergy is often outgrown and I don't think RAST's change without exposure to the allergen. Anyone you could ask about a food challenge - when he's past 3.

My LO is 5 and has just started growing out of it.

He loves Yorks Pud but it gives him execma on his earlobe. Today for the first time he ate home made cherry/coconut cookie made with 1 egg and was OK DH and I were circling at a distance as didn't want him to decide he didn't like it knowing it had egg in.

They are wanting to repeat the skin prick test in 6 months and then do an egg challenge if the results look ok.

My worry is that perhaps the result was low level because he hasn't been exposed and he might have a horrible reaction to the egg challenge. But, I don't really have a proper understanding of it all.

well one of my children has a nut allergy and their tests show no sign of improving, they've got worse. Food challenges aren't done unless they think it's going to be safe and then they are done slowly and carefully in hospital.

Really sound like he's outgrowing it, as most children do with egg allergy.

Glad to hear that your ds is outgrowing it. Age 5 sounds encouraging. DS's cousin didn't outgrow his egg allergy until he was 8 and I have visions of ds going the same way, but maybe not!

DH had an egg allergy and he was 8 when he grew out of it so it does seem to be the norm.

DS has a seafood allergy as well but I don't mind that too much as I can avoid prawns !!!
