If you've got pompholyx or some other skin thing that requires topical steroids on your hands...

Just diagnosed and been prescribed mometasone cream. I'm used to using other potent steroid creams thanks to psoriasis, so would typically wash my hands after, but with this being on my hands, I'm worried about spreading it everywhere I touch, but obviously I need the cream to actually stay on my hands long enough to help.

So, how do you manage using steroid creams on your hands and not getting it on everything you touch afterwards? Today I ended up washing my hands after 25 minutes as it was so annoying.

I used to suffer badly but I’ve been on mounjaro 3 years and my eczema with pomphylx disappeared but when I did have it, I applied the steroid ) fucibet) at night and then wet wrapped and put a cotton glove on, put a bit on a couple of times a day and when I did need to wash my hands I washed in dermol500

I have Betnovate which I use for when pompholyx and dermatitis make an appearance on my hands. Usually, I put it on in the evening - this is when I notice the pain and itchiness starting. Easy to do this when you plan on sitting down for at least 20 minutes (eg watching tele). Put it on and then do not touch anything until cream has absorbed.

Any small sign of the itchiness starting, I apply cream. Catch it early before it becomes painful.

Edited to add - you only need to use a very small amount, apply a thin layer and it will absorb and be effective fast.

Thanks both.

I used one fingertip of cream for both hands (as per NHS online advice) but I'll try less tonight.

I don't want to cover it as I already use a lot of steroid creams at times so need to limit absorption.
