Sudden onset swollen eyes

ThaneOfGlamis · Today 09:12

I put ds to bed last night looking fine. An hour later he was awake with very swollen and red eyes. I showered him down and have him two spoons of certirizine last night and two this morning, but it hasn't gone down at all. Can anyone suggest a better treatment?

I don't know what he reacted to. Best guess is either pollen, as he has been a bit sneezy lately, or peanuts as he had a cereal bar before bed. He has never had a reaction to peanuts or tree nuts before, but I know allergies can come on suddenly. I am scared to give him more peanuts to test, so will contact gp surgery tomorrow about a possible allergy test.

If his eyes are still red I'd try eye drops/an eye bath. Don't just use one drop, use enough to get significant run out to try to wash away any allergens that may be lurking. If it is peanuts or similar rather than an external trigger it won't help but it shouldn't do any harm.
