My little one is now 4 months old. He was born 8lb13 so quite a chunky boy and instantly had a huge appetite. By 7 weeks he was gulping down 6oz bottles. From 10 weeks old however everything changed, it started to become a struggle to feed him (tried everything possible, different timing pace feeding changing teats)
he will drink 2/3oz of his bottle and then pull off to wind. However once he’s burped he WILL not latch back on. I give it about 15 minutes and he then will maybe do another oz and have to repeat this a few times until he’s had 5/6oz. I have tried just leaving him and seeing if it’s a case he isn’t hungry but after about 30 mins he will be crying for more and then the 1oz / 15 min wait circle begins. It’s takin anything from 1-1.5 hours to complete a feed with him. He kicks his legs a lot during g the feed often fusses and cries so I know something is bothering him. We were given gaviscon which worked for around 2 weeks till it fully blocked him up and he started spitting up more due to being so blocked. We’re now on infant omazrepole but yet to sees change. Drs think it’s silent reflux due to symptoms (fussing, after a burp he winces and pulls a face as if acid has come up, gulps a lot during the day, forever VERY gassy. Will instantly burp but will be burping still hours after a feed and you can hear wind gurgling in his stomach often. Will also only bring wind up in the sitting up position no other wind position works for him 😂). I know people say reflux is often a symptom in itself. I’m just wondering anyone who’s had babies with CMPA if this sounds similar? He isn’t colic so isn’t excessively crying, will sleep on a night just fine, no rash etc to suggest allergy straight away but I just need to find the route of his fussy feeding as it’s becoming an in-enjoyable and stressful experience for me! Will note this isn’t my first baby and my first used to complete his feeds in 20-30 mins which seemed more “normal”. Any advice how to make these feeds easier for both me and him would be great.

Just to add his symptoms over all are

  • fussy feeding
  • crying at bottle after a burp
  • face pulling after a burp
  • gulping and swallowing (when not feeding)
  • constant congestion
  • daily hiccups and sneezing
  • excessive wind
  • irregular bowl movements, sometimes constipated sometimes diarrhoea

If it’s just reflux it tends to be present from birth.

He’s never been bad for spitting up so they suggested it was silent reflux and the reason he was drinking such large bottles at an early age was because he was using the milk tongue soothe his throat etc from the acid

I would be asking for a trial of dairy free milk from the GP.
