Eczema flares all over body, rash, allergy?

My 6 month old son has had flares since approx 3 months old. They have worsened since introducing foods, and have eliminated wheat due to a huge flare on separate occasions after weetabix. I try to avoid a lot of dairy as that’s another worry. He has aptamil anti reflux formula which has CMP- and doesn’t take well to many formulas because of his reflux so we haven’t switched formula yet. Doctors just prescribe a steroid which doesn’t work, and other creams which also don’t work. I have found VitalBaby Hypochlorous spray and a certain emollient from Boots works best- but when he has a flare it is relentless to manage and retains no moisture. It has now spread to his face. We have an allergist appointment but not for a couple of months. We bath him in a small amount of water every 3 days with emollient, my washing liquid is the eco non bio fragrance free which i changed from regular non bio. I keep foods simple to keep track of allergens and keep his skin aired and clean. Does anybody have any experience with this? Does the rash look familiar to you? Professionals haven’t been any help at the moment and I’m hoping to find some Mums with experience of this! He is such a happy baby and is very resilient despite this, but it does bother him and he does scratch so I cover his hands as much as possible. Trying to add photos so they may be in the comments TIA

It would be very strange for the steroids not to work if you’re using them properly. Are you bathing him, patting dry, applying a thin layer 1-2 times a day for 7 full days until the rash is gone? He may need a stronger one. Go back to the GP.

You need to make sure emollient is used within 90 seconds of getting him out of the bath. Emollient traps moisture it doesn’t introduce it.

You have my sympathy. I’ve had eczema for 30 years and yes it looks like that and it’s a fucking evasive nightmare. I’ve never found a trigger for mine but it’s mostly managed with medication.

Try getting rid of laundry detergent completely and swap it for natural soap nuts… that helped me. Also the main dietary triggers are gluten and dairy so try getting rid of those for a bit.

Child’s Farm or Aveeno were more effective emollients for me. Or Zeroderm.

Eczema is relentless, so I’m sorry. Go back for a stronger steroid. Use it for longer. Most children grow out of it so I hope he’s one of them.

You could also try oat baths or? Most effective for me has been adding Dead Sea salts to my baths.
