I don't know if it helps but even tho I know it smells like vomit, my babies all managed to cope with Neocate even after breastmilk only.one of them was 2 when we were given it for him! They are now 8,10 and 11 and eat a careful but NORMAL diet!!! the middle one was so bad he was totally IV drip fed 6 months. So hang in there. It will be OK and you will survive with a lovely kid. Paeds can be so resistant to the idea of allergies its mad. They seem to think soya is magic but often milk intolerant babies can't manage soya either.
Good Luck.

whats neocate?

there are other ways of fattening up, peter was put on loads but i dont know if they are suitable for babies.

is she really a year old?

auriel · 09/06/2008 20:57

Oh and we did power food for weaning... Avocado humous tahini halva max 2 tsp in total mixed in a tiny bit of rice/milk .. things you need a small amount of but that have lots of good calories and nutrients.
GOod luck

Try not to stress too much - I had to change dd's formula from soya to neocate at about the same age - I just slowly replaced one oz of soya with neocate until I'd eventually weaned her onto it - it took about a month and now two years later she guzzles it down and I'm now having to try and wean her onto cows milk!

So, if she was having a 6oz bottle I'd mix 5oz soya and 1 oz neocate, then the following week do 4oz soya and 2 neocate and so on.

By the way - if your dd is over one see if she should be on neocate advance as this is what they normally prescribe as she's over 1.

This is a good thing trace. Young babies should only be given soya as an absolute last resort, so I would be more annoyed about them giving her this to start with, rather than them changing her over now.

trace2 · 10/06/2008 08:51

CantSleepWontSleep yes i remember you saying befor! and i did ask and now her insides are damaged through giving her her both milks for so long shes had biopsys and not got full results yet until wed but the phone call yesterday said trhey wanted her of soya as soon as as shes got really bad allergys to cows milk and soya. my poor baby as been suffering all this time

Poor u and poor u and poor baby. Take heart tho she will get better and her gut will recover in time. It is not fair is it, but you will find away.. we fed Ds 10mls everyhour to begin with , 24 hr a day but it was worth it in the end. good luck.
