New egg intolerance at age 12? Is this likely?

So DD is 12 nearly 13. She’s always had a somewhat unpredictable stomach but recently it seems to have ramped up and she’s been having episodes where she gets sudden cramps and diarrhoea (sorry) but then is fine.

The only cause I can think of is that a few of these episodes have happened right after having eggs for lunch.

She has eaten eggs since she was a baby (although not often as a main meal element) with no apparent ill effects.

Is it possible for an intolerance to first show up or develop at this age?

Is there any way to test for it? She will stop eating eggs and see if that helps although will be very difficult to eliminate fully. Do any of these home tests you see advertised work?

Sorry never had any allergy issues in the family before so am new to all this. And it might not be that!

Yes it is possible for an intolerance to pop up like this. The best way to test it is to stop egg for a few weeks then do the egg ladder. Google it :) I can't post a link.
The site talks about allergy but it's useful for intolerance as well.

Thanks, I just looked up egg ladder. It talks about using fairy cakes but I don’t think she reacts to a bit of fully cooked egg (like in baking) just runny eggs and in bigger amounts? I guess we can test for runny egg in a similar way though.

That's great if she is already good with baked eggs. The egg ladder would work fine with runny eggs.

Thank you. Hopefully we can do this without stopping all egg traces as that will be tricky at school. Will give it a go and see how her tummy goes.
