Hi, has anyone experienced their child being fine with one animal but then reacting to another.

She has had a cold a few weeks ago, but when she has colds she coughs at night, but at mo she is coughing alot during the day too and not during night. Dog never goes upstairs.

Can cough be only symptom

Yes, its really common (sorry).

I'm allergic to cats, rabbits and horses but not dogs, guinea pigs etc.

If the cough is a symptom of allergy then it is probably related to asthma. But I'm not saying that your dd is allergic to the puppy, only that it's a possibility.

coughs take longerto clear than colds. it sounds to me as though it is the cough left by the cold iykwim? usually with pet allergies there is blotchy skin too.

My dd was very allergic to cats as a baby - but not anymore - now 8. Also she was never allergic to dogs. Could be a certain type of hair?? eg fluffy/fine?? Its still early days with the dog - and could be attributed to other factors aswell at the moment -eg certain pollens - this is the worst time of year for my dd with her asthma.

I was told that the difference between cat/dog allergies is that with cats it's usually hairs, whereas with dogs it's skin flakes.

Same with hayfever - it depends on whether your sensitivity is to tree, grass or flower pollens, or even individual species.
