hayfever making asthma worse in 6 year old.........

He takes a puff of brown inhaler morning and night and has his blue reliever. He mostly just gets breathless, not very ofteen wheezy, and it's not too bad , he just usually struggles with swimming and if running about a lot at school.
But in the last 10 days he's got worse, having a puff of blue inhaler most days and I presume it's linked to pollen? He is complaining he feels like he has a cold (he hasn't), and his eyes look puffy.
The nurse told me a while ago that she thinks his asthma is environment based... so should i ask doctor for hayfever relief, is there anything he could have or does he need his asthma meds tinkered with? (he has never been in hospital with an attack)

This has just happened to my 8 year old and they have adjusted his medication. He now has a purple inhaler and some anti-histamine pills. I would definitely advise taking him to the asthma nurse or whoever you have at your place and having it all looked at.

I have made him an appointment now for next week. I guess its the case of whether you treat the cause or the effect?

My dd's asthma always gets worse between April and May (resulting in 3 days High Dependancy Unit on one occassion) - asthma nurse says there is a certain type of pollen only around at this time of year. We manage by doubling her dose of purple inhaler for these few weeks - then dropping back down afterwards - seems to work. She also suffers with hayfever and they seem to be linked.

this happens to me - I'm on a really good antihistamine, nasal spray and eyedrops - they're working so well this year that, apart from taking my blue inhaler a couple of times a week, my normal preventer is enough.

Pop to the asthma nurse asap and get his medication reviewed. If you're using your blue inhaler more than two or three times a week on a regular basis, then asthma is not being properly controlled and needs to be reviewed. Asthma meds are really quite awesome these days - it's just a trick of discovering the right combo/dose.

My DH has the worst case of hayfever I've ever seen and has recently started using the Medinose Plus. He's had virtually no symptoms, which is unheard of. It works for any respiratory-related allergy, is safe for children and pregnant women too. Expensive, but definitely worth it.
