Mum with cows milk and egg allergy

Hello!

I am currently 21 weeks pregnant, I have a cows milk and egg allergy and have had it since I was a baby and never grown out of it. I’m hoping when my girl is born she doesn’t develop the same allergies but struggling with advice because there’s next to none out there!

I cant even find anyone in the same position. I am hoping to breastfeed but on the chance that I can’t, I’m worried about giving my baby cows milk formula but this seems the only option as doctors will only supply hypoallergenic formula if an allergy is diagnosed.

does anyone have any advice or been in this position?

thanks so much!

Our son has a cows milk allergy, due to this we could get non-cows milk formula on prescription for our daughter.

Are you allergic to goats milk? Some people can tolerate goats milk better so would only have a mild reaction to physical contact with goats milk, if so you could use a goats milk formula.

My mum had an allergy to proteins found in all poultry and eggs except turkey meat. I didn’t inherit it and have no allergies at all.

Allergies are not necessarily inherited are they? so I would tentatively try the cows milk formula and watch for reactions (lots of vomiting, wind, crying, lose nappies, generally miserable).

Did you consider breast feeding? I breastfed my ds until weaned (he had a dairy intolerance which is really common and he grew out of it). I was able to avoid triggering it by going dairy free myself. I know bf isn’t for everyone but just wanted to mention.

Good luck

Thanks for responding! Did your daughter have milk allergy too? I don’t drink goats milk so I’m not sure. I have soya or oat. Do your children suffer with eczema too?

Oh interesting! I’m hoping my daughter doesn’t inherit them. Did your mum have the allergies since birth?

yes I’m hoping to breastfeed so fingers crossed everything goes okay with that!

She hasn’t been tested yet so we don’t know, neither have eczema or other skin sensitivities.
