Aptamil pepti 1 - stick it out?

Hi, I’m on day 5 trying pepti 1 for my 9 week old for suspected CMPA and I feel like I'm losing my mind!

Since birth he has been windy and squirmy, even kicking up his legs in the hospital so midwives commented on it. Since coming home he frequently goes bright red in the face and wriggles around in discomfort. We are first time parents so thought some level of discomfort is normal, however the health visitor noticed and suggested it’s reflux. He’s sicky sometimes and you can hear him bringing milk up in his throat and he used to be very uncomfortable when put down on his back (he’s a bit better with this now). He also has frequent hiccups and coughs and sneezes often. He’s also a snuffly breather and we’ve called 111 twice in a panicky for him sounding congested/laboured breathing. For the last few weeks he’s had bumps on his face which hv and gp said was baby acne, but this has got worse and now sometimes looks like eczema or hives - it comes and goes so quickly though and I can’t see a pattern with feeding.

We've tried gaviscon, which helped a bit with reflux but could only be used in 6 feeds a day and he was spitting up the feed that had nothing in. We’ve tried omeprazole which also helped a bit but he had several pale yellow poos a day which freaked me out so we stopped. He’s now trying pepti 1 since last Thursday to see if it’s a milk allergy but we’ve noticed no difference so far, he actually seems worse in terms of squirminess and crying and he clearly doesn’t like the taste. He will drink it but then I think it comes back up his throat and must taste so unpleasant that he screams. He also farts a LOT and cries a lot before doing a poo (different to infant dyschezia, seems like he’s in a lot of pain). We’re also using carobel thickener which has stopped him being sick as much. The red rash on his face comes and goes… right now he’s doing a high pitched choking/coughing cry after just being fed.

People have said it will get worse before it gets better on this new milk but why would that be the case if it’s got less dairy in? Should we try an amino acid formula or go back to previous formula (hipp organic) and treat the reflux instead? I’m so confused I feel like I’m going insane!!

Hi. Did you get any of this resolved. Going through similar with my baby and also feel like I'm going insane!!!

Hi, so sorry you’re going through this! In the end I gave up on this milk as he hated it and I didn’t notice any improvement. I used a gentle moisturiser on his face and it cleared up, I think it was just dry/irritated skin. And we switched to hipp and then eventually kendamil and he’s doing really well on it now at 17 weeks. We use carobel milk thickener to help with reflux which is great. So it wasn’t cmpa for us, I actually think it was just a fussy period from about 6-10 weeks and then things calmed down a lot, but if you’ve got symptoms of cmpa do persist as I know for some babies it makes all the difference! Best of luck, it’s so hard!
