is it possible to become allergic to milk as an adult?

posted this in health, only just realised there is a whole topic devoted to allergies!

i went to my mum's for sunday dinner yesterday and afterwards came out in an itchy rash that is like little tiny spots all over my face, neck and shoulders, doubt it was the roast, pudding was bannoffee pie (so lots of dairy). i came home took an anti-histamine and it died down.

this morning it's just appeared again, only thing i've eaten so far is a bit of easter egg....

is anyone else allergic to milk? what symptoms do you get?

i am really praying it's not milk (although can't think of anything else tbh) as i'm a vegetarian and there will be nothing left i can eat!

any advice/info/other possible causes gratefully received!

From what I know, when you have food allergies, the first symptoms are often an itchy tongue etc etc, right after having the offending food.

Any chance it's a face cream or soap or something. Odd that it's face, neck and shoulders, but nowhere else ...

it's possible to become allergic to anything at any time. so you do need to consider anything you ate or drank but also think about temperature and rosacea www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=325

If it does turn out to be milk you may be Ok with goats milk (protein slightly different although not enough to benefit everyone) or sheeps milk. Probably best to talk to your doctor.

If you've never had any problems with milk before unlikely to suddenly happen like that although still possible. Problems with dairy more usually cause diarrhoea. Could it be new washing powder or something?
