I know- it's such a shame isn't it? The only nut free easter chocs around now that I can find are kinnerton.

SorenLorensen · 04/03/2008 14:13

A friend of mine was talking about this the other day - her ds is allergic to peanuts - and the Dr Who Easter Egg she bought him in M&S last year (nut free) now carries warnings on the packaging. He can't understand why he can't have what looks like exactly the same Easter Egg again this year.

brimfull · 04/03/2008 14:14

You're kidding!

What a pita.

chloesmumtoo · 05/03/2008 12:37

I know, we are gutted. I have not checked tesco this year yet. Last year they did some, funny enough that were actually nut safe! Anyone looked yet?

I believe this is down to a labelling adjustment by Kinnerton Confectionery rather than a change in their manufacturing. I would suggest you contact Kinnerton's and ask them for further details before you take any risks, to be on the safe side.

Kind regards
Angela

Is M&S chocolate made by Kinnerton then?

cocococo · 13/03/2008 12:10

it all used to be made by Kinnerton and was nut free but maybe they have stopped using Kinnerton now. If anyone manages to find nut-free easter eggs on the high street please let me know!

BalloonSlayer · 13/03/2008 17:37

Waitrose sells the Kinnerton eggs, we have the dairy free ones (which I think are also nut free) but I think there is also a nut free milk chocolate egg.

brimfull · 13/03/2008 17:39

kinnerton eggs are a bit crap though

ds decidely unimpressed with them

Dammenberg (in Finland) produce nut-free chocolate, including Easter eggs and these are available from a few shops in the UK and online stores including No Nuts...just Chocolate (www.nonutsjustchocolate.com).

Hi

DD had a visit to the Kinnerton Factory and it was fab - a bit Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fame, she was thrilled.

Anyhooo, apparently, they were told the chocolate is safe and made by them but due to the fact they are transported by a company that also transports eggs for Thorntons etc with nuts in they have to put the warning on.....

You know, just in case a safe eggs unwraps itself and then pootles over and unwraps a nut filled egg for a chat during the journey, you know, when they are bored like....

So, apparently its down to transport and it stinks.

ITSNUTFREE - we LOVE your products, you run a brilliant service there you know. We got my DD a mixed box of stuff last Xmas so she could dib in and out like we would with the Quality Street, she was so thrilled she cried! Many thanks!

fairywave · 14/12/2008 22:30

Apparently it's because Kinnerton had DNA testing done and a minute trace of nut was found in the nut free area of the factory. They have since changed their labelling but for myself, I am satisfied that the chocolate is still safe. However M&S were worried about their brand reputation and got rid of the nut free labelling. The irony is that some of their chocolate is still Kinnerton as far as I know, but it is now indistinguishable from all other chocolate, so therefore none of it is safe!

nic60 · 27/10/2009 09:07

I have watched the nut free advice on chocolates change over the years and it has made it more and more difficult to get NICE chocolate. I've found the Cadbury's website very useful as they have a search engine for allergy sufferers and you can choose from the list. Hopefully they'll keep it up.

I'm new to this site. My daughter is taking this very bad and she is very upset. My thinking behind the M&S labelling is complete laziness. They don't want to be bothered. I thought they needed, and wanted business. Do they not realise most of their business comes from mothers! Mothers with children. I don't get it. This has angered me so much! I'm drafting a letter, my daughter Jessica who is 10 will be writing a section too. This letter will be forwarded to other stores. My oldest daughters have started a campaign on Facebook called

join our campaign to boycott supermarkets that don't provide nut free foods:

BlueBumedFly · 19/02/2010 14:15

Hollygolitely - so sorry your daughter is upset by all this, we have been there believe me. Have you tried Sainsbury's nut free chocolate in the free-from section? Its really nice.

Also try itsnutfree.com, I will try one of those link things but I am fairly rubbish at it. We got loads of stuff from them for Xmas and parties and it tastes really good. We gave DD a budget and she was able to choose, made a real difference to the festive period.

Good luck with the letter. We complained to Kinnerton and got invited to a factory tour. DD loved it, it was such a special treat.

Mars do a nut free range of eggs this year. malteaster bunny eggs, minstrel eggs, maltesers and friends eggs, all three eggs and their contents are all nut free. Mars aren't usually known for nut free products but this year they seem to have taken over from cadbury and nestle. Hope this helps!

topiarygal · 23/03/2010 13:29
  • kinder eggs
  • cadbury cream eggs - only the normal size onces in some of the packs - check and read
  • galaxy eggs - smaller ones

Evafrost, I was dissapointed to see that the malteser eggs and bunnies have a may contain traces of nuts lable on them - was gutted! are there different batches out there - shall I go on a hunt?

I've taken to doing easter egg hunts with the small ones as DS is now grown out of the kinnerton brands ...

And yes: itsnutfree are amazing!!! Factory tour - what a great idea!
