Neocate silent reflux and mucus nappies 8 weeks old

Hi I really hope someone can advise me. My lo has all the symptoms of silent reflux and is on the lowest dose of omeprazole (2.8ml) which hasn’t really done anything for her. My hv called today and weighed her so I am able to increase it now to 5ml so I’m hoping this might help. However she was put on neocate at 3 weeks old due to having nappies full of mucus, sore tummies, endless wind and a rash that I thought was baby acne.. she has been on the neocate 34 days now and her nappies are still pure mucus and she strains to get it out which I don’t understand. I didn’t think the mucus would continue after so long I was told 4 weeks at most.

I have read so many forums and tried carobel, infacal, I hold her up over an hour after the bottle and constantly burp her. She would still have a clear acidic liquid coming up hours after her bottle and sometimes a little bit comes out. I don’t know if she should even be on neocate and know it is less nutritious but I’m afraid to change her of it when I know it’s the easiest digested and she’s already having trouble.

Can anyone advise please

Hi @Eimz90 - in a very similar situation. My girl is 10 weeks. Has all the signs and symptoms of reflux. We’ve tried omeprazole suspension for 2 weeks and
no change. Her nappies are FULL of mucus. She’s also refusing feeds which is awful.

how are you going?

@Sunnydays44 aw I’m so sorry to hear your little girl is going through similar. It’s so so hard and I hate that I wish the newborn stage away. Honestly I think the omeprazole has helped my daughter but I think it’s because they had to put her on a higher dose. Have you had your daughter weighed to see what dose? There is also other meds if it doesn’t work. I haven’t seen the clear liquid in a long time. Contrary to what most people do I have now started giving her a small bowl of baby porridge mixed with her formula to thicken the milk in her belly. So essentially the same idea as adding carobel but when I had done that she had really bad wind. My dr had said a few weeks ago that we should wean her early at 17 weeks as that can help with reflux. She is 15 weeks atm. It was either that or keep increasing the meds and I’m so anti meds and hate having to increase them. Although there’s still a possibility they may need increased again as she gets bigger

I wish you all the luck in the world! It’s so hard but we will get there

@Sunnydays44 i was kind of able to rule out a dairy intolerance as the reason my daughter had so much mucus in her poop as she went on to neocate which is completely dairy free and it still continued. I eventually put her back onto aptamil and she hasn’t changed much tbh there’s less mucus in her poops but they were completely water until we introduced the baby porridge. I still think my daughter has a slight dairy intolerance as her cheeks flare up during bottles and because of the watery poop but I don’t think it calls for neocate unless she’s in pain as her wee system is still just getting use to the protein in dairy.

i didn’t want to give porridge until she was atleast 17 weeks but after speaking to other mums who had seen big improvements weaning early I wanted to try to try not to have to continue increasing meds. It’s only been 5 days on porridge
