Wasp sting under eye - horrible photo included

Been stung by a wasp under my eye and it’s really really swollen - I’ve taken antihistamine and paracetamol but it hurts like hell and it’s hot and throbbing!

I can’t get to the sting site to apply vinegar (it’s in the puffed up closed bit) I’ve put some ice on it but that doesn’t seem to do much.

Any ideas?

Gosh, that looks terrible-I'm so sorry for you. I think you should try a pharmacist to begin with, they might be able to recommend something. Hope it goes down soon x

Ship · 30/08/2022 12:15

That looks so painful! I would also go to the pharmacist

eggsandbaconeveryday · 30/08/2022 12:17

I would go straight to A&E. If you have already taken an antihistamine then a chemist will not be able to do much more. I hope that you manage to get it sorted out

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/08/2022 12:18

I would go to the pharmacy, take Piriton liquid as you can take that multiple times a day. I would think ibruprofen would be a good idea as well .

skgnome · 30/08/2022 12:19

go to the chemist - not sure there’s much they can do - but they can point you in the right direction
honestly I would be tempted to got A&E

Seeline · 30/08/2022 12:20

Do you normally react to wasp stings?
Was that an instant reaction of has it come up gradually?

Chelsea26 · 30/08/2022 12:24

I do have quite bad reactions to bites and stings generally but not if one on my face before.

It happened yesterday evening and has been swollen like this since about half an hour after.

DP is going to drive me down to the chemist now to see if they have stronger antihistamines or something

Thanks all

Can you rub a raw onion on it? Really helps with the pain and swelling from wasps. (Got told this but the guy who removed ours from the loft)

Seeline · 30/08/2022 12:42

If the swelling isn't getting worse, then pharmacist might be able to help. But if it gets worse or starts getting red/hot then A&E. You could end up with cellulitis which can be really serious on face/eyes.

No good pointing the OP a direction, she can’t see where she’s going.

DH was stung at the side of his forehead through his cycle helmet, his eye looked like that, the top side of his face all swelled up, it took a few days to go down, it was very alarming.

SherwoodForest · 30/08/2022 13:00

You need to go to A&E/minor injuries unit or go in person to your GP, show the receptionist and ask if you can be squeezed in as an emergency.
I suffer from bad reactions to insect bites which usually need antibiotics. Anything near your eye is a priority to be treated and potentially serious. A pharmacist is likely to tell you to go to A&E for antibiotics.

Wallabyone · 30/08/2022 13:02

I think given it happened yesterday, you need to see someone medical.

Hm2020 · 30/08/2022 13:06

I would say gp or someone medical also that looks so painful and irritating.

Karabish · 30/08/2022 13:06

Bless your heart. That must be so painful. I was stung by a b*stars wasp as well yesterday but not on the eye!!! Definitely seek help as others have said, you're not wasting anyone's time. Ring 111 as well as pharmacy. Hope you feel better soon x

Chelsea26 · 30/08/2022 13:15

@Riapia 😂 Thank you - I needed a laugh!

As predicted the pharmacist said a&e - I’ve not gone yet - I’ve sent a photo to my GP and I’m hoping they’ll phone me back soon.

I will go to A&E if it gets any worse in the meantime or if the Dr tells me to but I’m waiting for my boys to get back from a two week holiday so I’d rather not go if I don’t absolutely have to.

Stop fannying around with GP's and go to A&E like the professional pharmacist has said! Your GP will send you to a&e!

TooManyPJs · 30/08/2022 13:25

Go to A&E!

The GP might not look at that photo for days. Don't muck about with your eyes.

Wallabyone · 30/08/2022 18:33

How are you? I'm hoping you've been seen by now x

Chelsea26 · 30/08/2022 18:40

Thanks for messages guys - eye is still big. Had video appt with GP and he has prescribed really strong antihistamines and 7days of antibiotics so hoping they’ll start kicking in shortly…

I’m feeling ok in myself, just a bit peeved and a bit uncomfortable.
