Travel Insurance for ds with nut allergy

I am having real trouble getting a quote for a single trip for less than £70. Without a nut allergy, the cheapest quote was £13.70.
Does anyone have anyone good they use? Would really appreciate a reccomendation.

We have used tesco before aswell ,probably cheaper.

No tried Tesco first.

Have got a nasty feeling they are all going to be the same. In fact the quote from Greenbe without nut allergy info was £44.60, the same as someone else I tried so I suspect they use the same underwriters...

Have you tried insurance brokers? As they can search for you & are quite competitive as my DS suffers from asthma & I use a really good one

We weren't charged any extra for ds with allergy and asthma.But then again he hasn't had any recent hospitalisations.Has your ds been treated recently?Is that why you're being charged more?

I've got asthma and a nut allergy and have never been charged extra - iirc we used direct line the last time we travelled

It's the, 'is he in danger of a life threatening allergic reaction?' question that does it.

I have been through all the questions,told them about his epipen etc and never been charged extra.

How odd. Tesco came in at £57.11. The first person said that if I answered yes to 'life threatening reaction' question it cost more. She asked about the epi pen and put down no. When I called back to buy the insurance the chap said having the epi pen made no difference and that the cost would be £73.53.
Online price at Flexi cover was £13.80 but you couldn't buy online with a pre existing medical condition. Many difficultis later I got a price of £50 odd from them with a £10 premium on top for nut allergy though as website was not adding the premium, I gave up.
Sigh...will try Greenbe again in a bit then look at brokers. Am rather annoyed that Canvas Holidays will not let me buy my holiday without insurance.

we have always gone to europassistance directly (I think the canvas insurance is with them ,it used to be) on their eurodriver cover, if i recall correctly they charged an additional £8 for a medical declaration and it was cheaper to do it directly with them than through canvas. You do have to phone them though, not through the web site.

No, they asked if any or us had a pre-existing medical condition.

Think its swinton that have it menetioned as something you don't have to tell them about specifiacally as they'll cover it anyway. If you don't mention it with other insurers you may not be covered should you need treatment.

Greenbee (mentioned earlier) cover nut allergies as standard, I've been looking at so much small print on travel insurance myself! It's weird, you can get away with nut allergy not being declared sometimes, but when you mention another food allergy it pushes the price way up. Most unfair.

I was wondering if you had had any luck in finding cheaper insurance as I am in the same situation as you. We are going to Hong Kong in April and apparently they use a lot of nut oil in their cooking which is really scary for a child who has a nut allergy!

Do try Greenbee, I used them when we went to France last year and they do cover nut allergy, no matter how life threatening, as standard. Plus their surcharges for other medical conditions are more than reasonable, and they're really polite and helpful.

And no, I don't work for them!!

getmytravelinsurance.com £29.09 with the allergys, my son has an epipen and he also has asthma, ive just purchased the insurance online, it was easy, for our trip to turkey in july.
